you already consume enough content to tranquilize a small rhinoceros. time to do something with it. if you dont know how, allow me. very easy. idiot proof masterclass. put your phone in a drawer and then leave your house with a field notes notebook and a pen. in exactly 7 minutes time (not sure why) your first idea will arrive. play with it, dance with it, mold it into something. then write it down. BUT BEWARE, once you write it down its gone and your brain will move onto something else. let your mind feast until its satisfied. only return home when youre muttering incantations under your breath. then return your device and pop the shaken champagne into the void (via text or voice or whatever creative medium you fancy). have your ai agent of choice put that thing everywhere. now, not only will you ACTUALLY HAVE ideas, but your ideas will be fun, unique, and if done consistently, will change your life forever.

Extremely disappointing marathon showing today, chip time 3:33:14. I am mostly writing this to my future self so I can better prepare for the next attempt. I encourage you to read it if you are an amateur runner or want to learn from my mistakes… Still digesting what happened but early conclusion: I did not control what I could control to the best of my ability. I failed at meeting my goal today because 1) I did not do strength training to build durability and prevent injury; thus I did not show up today at 100% and those weaknesses revealed themselves. 2) my long runs were not long enough or frequent enough. Mostly due to # 1 I had to limit my long runs due to an Achilles/calf/knee injury about 6 weeks ago. Other factors: roads were pretty abysmal in areas with potholes and cracks. I was wearing some notoriously unstable shoes, the Saucony Endorphin Elite 3’s. I love the shoes and they helped me run a 1:28 half a few weeks ago, but with my nagging injuries and bad roads, they might not have been the smart choice… I rolled my ankle in a pothole while I was fighting through the crowds around mile 1-2. Because my ankle was in rough shape, my already weak Achilles, hamstring, and knee most likely had to overcompensate, and they failed early. Result: the wheels fell off. Despite having my heart rate well within my control and far from my limit, the pain in my leg grew so unbearable that I feared the worst, a catastrophic injury. I contemplated dropping out many times. As the 3:10 pacer, then the 3:15 pace… and finally the 3:30 pacer passed me, my mindset took hit after hit and I was not mentally strong enough. My walking stretches got longer and slower. Starting to run again was so painful that it felt almost impossible at times. I’m also very emotional that a year of consistent training came to this result. I still got a PB (by a mere 2 minutes). I refused to let myself get a worse time than 2025 when I had no idea what I was doing. Maybe I still don’t. Either way I know why I failed. Immediate order of business: - rest and recover - get into some physical therapy for my right leg, not only to heal but to improve my mechanics and strength. - get back to running as soon as I am physically able to. I might be stubborn by creating my own training plans, but I don’t make the same mistake twice. Signing off to wallow in my frustration and disappointment before demolishing a pizza.

Pro tip: really easy way to add some stimulus to your runs if you live in an area with no elevation change — have a kid

My kid is going to be really disappointed when his first car will be my 2013 Honda civic that I plan to keep for past a million miles.

I don’t wear headphones for hard runs like this. I want to remember every step. I want to immerse myself in the pain. The real success was not beating my goal time of 1:30, it was seeing my heart rate at 180 after 2 miles and understanding I was in for the toughest run of my life, but continuing anyways. it was feeling my diaphragm start to cramp at mile 6.5 and wondering if my race was finished, but telling myself it wasn’t over until I physically couldn’t move forward. it was regaining my strength at mile 8 and knowing I just crawled out of the abyss. Some questions cannot be answered until you’re deep in the pit. And I don’t want any distractions from headphones getting in the way.

5+ cups of coffee per day, sorry I don’t make the rules.
People who drank more coffee had less body fat, less visceral fat, and more lean mass than less-frequent or non-drinkers. The biggest benefit was seen at 5 or more cups per day. And for men, every extra cup per day was associated with a ~10 ng/dL higher total testosterone. Higher coffee intake was also associated with better glucose and insulin regulation in men. This was an observational study, but mechanistic and experimental evidence actually supports coffee's benefits on metabolic and hormonal health. I'm willing to believe there's a real link here rather than draw a conclusion such as "coffee drinkers live healthier lives in general."

Coffee: look hotter, feel less pain, zero calories. Truly the greatest product on earth
Caffeine (3 mg/kg) increases fat burning during running. Participants oxidized 40 grams of fat during a 1-hour run at fatmax intensity after ingesting caffeine vs. 33 grams without caffeine. Study - journals.humankinetics.com/v…
