Nepal has been struck by a terrible flooding disaster, with massive flash floods causing devastation across Rasuwa and other districts downstream.
In response, IFRC announces release of emergency funds totalling CHF 997,000 from @IFRC_DREF to reinforce Nepal Red Cross Society’s operations giving teams rapid access to life‑saving resources.
This rapid mobilisation is possible thanks to our @IFRC‑DREF donors, whose support enables us to act quickly and decisively when disasters strike.
The scale of destruction is severe: homes swept away, roads and bridges damaged, and critical infrastructure disrupted. The humanitarian impacts are significant and still unfolding. @NepalRedCross volunteers are already responding, delivering initial assistance, deploying additional teams, and working tirelessly to assess needs and support affected communities.
My thoughts, solidarity, and full support are with all those affected, and with the volunteers responding under extremely challenging conditions.

As the world is grappling with multiple crises, achieving gender equality is more vital than ever.
On this International Women’s Day, we pay tribute to the extraordinary women across the @IFRC network whose dedication and resilience inspire us every day. Along the journey, women from the IFRC network teams are always there, on the front lines, facing humanitarian challenges with unwavering commitment and compassion.
As we celebrate their achievements, we also call on everyone to take action to dismantle gender barriers and amplify the voices of all women and girls.
Let's stand together and work towards the IFRC’s ambition of promoting an inclusive and equitable world where diversity is championed and where everyone is treated with dignity and fairness. #IWD2026

Happy to announce my new book, The Motivated Leader, now available at amzn.to/3ZFJae2
Today, 204 million people live in areas controlled or contested by armed groups, 30 million more than in 2021.
Life in these areas means uncertainty, fear, and struggling to access essential services, while humanitarian organizations face major obstacles to reach those most in need.

The situation is catastrophic, with widespread damage to infrastructure, including bridges and roads, making it difficult to reach affected communities. Communications are down, and the true extent of the damage is still unfolding.
Despite these challenges, @MyanmarRedCross volunteers, are working tirelessly to search for survivors and provide urgent care to the wounded.
The @IFRC team in country is supporting their efforts and mobilizing all its global network.

Two weeks ago, I watched a Red Cross earthquake simulation in a classroom in Sagaing township in Myanmar. You can see the children in the picture below. They scrambled under tables at the sound of the siren and then left the room in an orderly fashion to an agreed safe zone - leaving no one behind.
It is likely that this school and many of these children's homes were damaged or destroyed last Friday. I pray their knowledge kept them safe.
After the school, we visited monasteries that were hosting thousands of people who had been displaced by violence. Again, you can see them in the picture below. They had lost everything - their farms, their homes, their way of live. They survived thanks to the hospitality of monks and neighbours.
News is still coming in, but it seems many of these monasteries were damaged or destroyed three days ago. The women and children that I met will be on the streets now - if they were lucky enough to survive.
Today, @ifrc will launch its emergency appeal to support as many people as we can. The most urgent need will be water. Power is down. The heat is relentless. There is nothing to drink.
We won't be alone in this effort. The local community will be doing everything it can to support. International assistance will pour in for a while to back that up. @ifrc will coordinate with @MyanmarRedCross and @ICRC to deliver the best collective response we can.
This will save lives, and it is our priority. Then in a few weeks, this story will fade from the news, the international solidarity will dry up, and the affected communities will still be there, without homes or livelihoods. Our appeal will anticipate this and will place a heavy emphasis on supporting people to recover.
Over the coming days, the magnitude of the destruction caused by this earthquake will become clearer, but we already know enough to say that some of the most vulnerable people in the world have just be dealt another giant blow.
It is time to stand alongside and support them.

In the face of the devastation following the powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck central Myanmar on 28 March 2025, @MyanmarRedCross Society teams have mobilized hundreds of trained volunteers to provide urgent assistance. The @IFRC network teams have been supporting these efforts in the country.
The destruction has been extensive, and humanitarian needs are growing by the hour. To scale up support, @IFRC launched an Emergency Appeal for 100 million CHF to assist 100,000 people (20,000 households) with life-saving relief and early recovery support over the next 24 months.
The @IFRC appeals to donors, partners, and supporters around the globe to act with generosity and urgency.
