Andy Burnham, in May: “I am not proposing that the UK considers rejoining the EU. I respect the decision that was made at the referendum and it’s going to undermine everything I’ve said about strengthening democracy if we don’t respect that vote.” bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx21…
Good news!
Congratulations to @LDoerkson and the @Conservative_BC on a strong majority mandate to bring common sense Conservative principles to British Columbia.
I look forward to working together to save Canadians money and jobs, lock up criminals, reduce immigration, and put Canada first.

Will Labour tax family firms into extinction? – @harryph argues that higher rates on passing businesses to the next generation in the Budget would be a disaster.

Watch the full interview on The Capitalist, where @DavidGHFrost talks to @marcsidwell about why neither Reform nor the Conservatives are offering sufficiently radical solutions to Britain's economic problems – and the continuing threat to Brexit.

Here’s an idea, Chancellor. Revive @Jacob_Rees_Mogg’s proposal to raise the threshold for SMEs from 50 to 500 employees - thus exempting those firms from a mass of regulation. Would slash red tape at a stroke.
Margaret Thatcher: “Let me give you my vision: A man's right to work as he will, to spend what he earns, to own property, to have the state as servant and not as master. These are the British inheritance.”
Congratulations to @saragezdari, @challoner_alex, @FestAKINBUSOYE and @JamesCleverly, who have been shortlisted to stand as the Conservative candidate for Mayor of London.

How London’s bridges are being sold down the river is well worth a read. 🎩 to @harryph

This is clearly insane.
A charity set up to maintain London’s bridges is sitting on £1.5 BILLION, funding political campaigns and giving £1.1m to a group with links to a charity now under investigation over alleged Hamas connections.
Meanwhile, Hammersmith Bridge is still closed and other Thames crossings are crumbling.
What on earth are @cityoflondon doing?

My attempt at discussing what has driven violent riots & wanton destruction in France (not without interruption). I was also reacting to unhelpfully labelling Kemi Badenoch's mention of challenges of migration y'day, as a Trump-like dog whistle #PoliticsLive

Why is the City Bridge Foundation funding “social justice” instead of fixing all of London’s bridges?
The charity was set up in 1282. Today, it’s worth almost *£1.5 billion*.
Yet… London’s bridges are falling apart.
Why?
The Foundation’s rules only require it to maintain 5 bridges. Funds can also be spent on “other charitable purposes” for the benefit of Londoners.
So what are some of these “other charitable purposes”?
👉 A “poet-in-residence”.
👉 Trans and sex worker sector capacity.
👉 A historian examining connections to the slave trade (they found links were “limited”).
👉 “Systems change”, islamic charities, migration support, climate crisis research… and a group campaigning against a new river crossing.
ENOUGH. Governments have failed to fix London’s bridges and one of our oldest institutions has not been directed to step in.
The City of London Corporation is the sole trustee of the Foundation. They have changed the rules before. The rules must change AGAIN to make all of our bridges the priority.
Change the rules. Fix the bridges.
