VIDEO | Lucknow: Ahead of Diwali, pulmonologist Dr Abhishek Tandon advises people to use air purifiers and N95 masks to reduce exposure to air pollution. Dr Tandon says that, if possible, people should stay indoors for at least one week during Diwali, keeping their windows and doors closed. They can also install a good-quality air purifier at home, especially in the bedroom, where they spend most of their time. He also advises people to wear a good-quality N95 mask whenever they step outside. Dr Tandon further suggests home remedies such as drinking black coffee or adding ginger and honey to lukewarm water, which he says act as natural antioxidants and help flush harmful substances out of the body. #Diwali #AirPollution #AirQuality #N95Mask #HealthAdvisory (Full video available on PTI Videos - ptivideos.com)

Delhi (& India's) Air Pollution Crisis has nothing to do with Diwali crackers - today's @IndianExpress front page is a good reminder of that. The Govt. likes the debate to be around crackers - so that the issue becomes religious and more serious problems like polluting industries / road dust / absense of EV infrastructure do not have to be discussed. Our national air pollution strategy has been abject failure - otherwise we wouldn't have been here after 8 YEARS - before Diwali (and we will be here months after Diwali as well). // PS - We have been too exhausted to make an episode this year on the same annual problem - youtu.be/18VWC6Q-zcs

VIDEO | Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis (@Dev_Fadnavis) says, "Look, Maharashtra has experienced a severe drought this year as well, and farmers are facing a major crisis. Therefore, all of us ministers have collectively decided that this time, we will celebrate Diwali by visiting villages and spending it with farmers. We will interact with them, sit together with them, and, in a way, make an effort to boost their morale through this initiative. We will have to face the drought, as there is no immediate solution to such a situation. However, the government will provide whatever assistance it can and take all possible measures to support the farmers. At the same time, we want to ensure that their morale remains high and that they feel the government stands with them. This is the decision we have taken." #Maharashtra #farmers

Air pollution isn't limited to Delhi. The AQI map shows elevated pollution levels across large parts of North India, with several monitoring locations recording hazardous air quality. The pollution belt extends across Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and beyond. Clean air cannot be a city-specific concern. It needs a regional response. #AirPollution #AQI #India #AirQuality #AQIin

Is this about accountability or another political blame game? #DelhiPollution #AirPollution #StubbleBurning #Punjab #DelhiNCR

STORY | PM Modi greets citizens on Dhanteras, stresses investing on health, loved ones Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday greeted people on the occasion of Dhanteras, the first day of Diwali festivities, and hoped their lives would always be illuminated with happiness, peace and good health by the divine grace of Lord Dhanvantari. Modi also urged everyone to make a commitment to better health this Dhanteras. “Wishing endless warm greetings to all fellow countrymen on the occasion of Dhanteras. May everyone's life always be illuminated with happiness, peace and good health by the divine grace of Lord Dhanvantari. May the eternal lamp of joy and cheer remain ignited in every family – this is my heartfelt best wish,” Modi said in a post on X in Hindi. The prime minister also encouraged families to adopt healthier habits, from mindful eating and regular yoga to adequate sleep and timely health screenings. “Let us invest in what matters most – the health of our loved ones and a healthier future for our families,” he said, commenting on an article by Union minister Prataprao Jadhav on the importance of investing in healthcare. Buying gold, silver, utensils, etc., on Dhanteras is a popular Hindu tradition, as these metals are believed to symbolise wealth, prosperity and good fortune. The occasion, also known as Dhantrayodashi, is celebrated two days before Diwali, marking the beginning of five-day festivities. In much of North India, the festivities begin with Dhanteras, followed by Naraka Chaturdashi (Chhoti Diwali), Diwali, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj.

Delhi’s pollution crisis is not a mystery. The science is clear, the sources are known & solutions have been recommended for years. What is missing is political will, year round action and accountability. As @BhavreenMK told DW, allowing pollution to happen and then trying to clean it up with sprinklers, smog guns and cloud seeding is a waste of public money, time and, most importantly, people’s health. And as @specsofgold, a Delhi mom who has protested for clean air, rightly says; “We have spent years learning how to live with pollution. It is time we demanded that those responsible learn how to end it.” This is the reality for millions of families. Children are growing up breathing toxic air. Mothers are being forced to accept what should never be normal. dw.com/en/no-choice-but-to-b… via @ainieas @DeutscheWelle
