Swiss national Claudia Abbt, 69, arrived in Libya’s eastern city of Benghazi together with 76-year-old Eva Gretzmacher, Libyan media outlets reported earlier, following an intervention from the military commander Khalifa Haftar, who controls eastern Libya and parts of the south. Gretzmacher was taken on January 11, 2025, while Abbt was captured in April last year. No group has publicly claimed responsibility for the abductions.
2/3 El Salvador's President Threatens Haitian Gangs over Military Hostages

UK - BBC
El Salvador's president has said he has launched a military operation to rescue four air force personnel who have been missing in Haiti since Sunday. Threatening further action, Nayib Bukele said that Wednesday's attack was "nothing" compared with what would happen if all the hostages - who he said were not combatants - were not returned alive. According to an X post from Bukele, the mission consisted of pilots and technical personnel, whose primary jobs were to "carry out medical evacuations and save lives, not to wage war".
3/3 My Husband Hiep Tran Is in A Vietnamese Prison. He Has Done Nothing Wrong

UK - The Guardian, Oct. 21, 2026
Just some days ago, I received a few fragmented details about his condition. I was told that he is in a fragile mental state, gripped by fear, and experiencing erratic blood pressure – symptoms which he had never experienced before. Knowing that my husband is suffering like this, unable to feel safe or at peace, is unbearable. The only brief message I have received from him reads: “Hi, how are you all going? I want you to know that I never entered Vietnam on my own. I never crossed the border. I am struggling mentally – traumatised and terrified by the situation.”
September 23 came & went. 🇸🇪🇪🇺 Dawit Isaak is still forcibly disappeared in Eritrea.
His 25th anniversary passed. His captivity continues!
@SwedishPM @kajakallas, how many more years will Sweden & the EU allow this to continue without consequences? What will it take to finally confront Eritrea’s refusal to answer even the most basic questions about his fate?
Dawit has lost 25 years. How many more will he lose before the governments meant to protect him finally act? #FreeDawit Now!

Prominent dissident artist Gao Zhen was detained by the CCP for his work. In addition, the CCP is now holding his seven-year old American son and wife under an exit ban and refusing to let them return to America.

Three men. Three disappearances in Syria. More than a decade without answers.
🇺🇸 Journalist Austin Tice. 🇺🇸 Archbishop Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim. 🇮🇹 Jesuit priest Paolo Dall’Oglio.
Their families are still waiting. Their fates remain unresolved. Time has passed, regimes have changed, yet the truth remains out of reach.
@POTUS & @GiorgiaMeloni, please make their cases a priority. Demand answers from those who may know what happened & press for the truth.
You have the means. You have the tools. You have the allies. These men must not be allowed to disappear from the world's conscience simply because years have passed. Their fate cannot remain an open question with no consequences.
Their families deserve answers. Their cases demand action. They need to be brought home.

Today, Stephen Hubbard is free and headed back home to his family.
Stephen is a proud American citizen, retired teacher, and U.S. Air Force veteran who loves our country.
Now, he is on his way back to a family who loves him, a President who never gave up on him, and a nation that proudly welcomes him home.
It was my honor to be with Stephen in St. Petersburg today before he departed for the United States. President Trump called Stephen to check on him and reaffirm his unwavering commitment to bringing all Americans wrongfully detained home.
Stephen joins more than 110 Americans who @POTUS has freed since returning to office, including Robert Gilman, Ksenia Karelina, and Marc Fogel.
This release was not part of an exchange - and we extend our thanks to President Putin for releasing him on President Trump’s request.
Thank you to @SecRubio, @JaredKushner, @CIADirector, Senior Director for Counterterrorism @SebGorka and the rest of the team for working tirelessly to achieve President Trump’s mission.

HAW Press Release: Hostage Aid Worldwide Celebrates Stephen Hubbard’s Release from Russian Detention
Hostage Aid gladly celebrates the release of Stephen Hubbard after more than four years of unlawful detention in Russia. At 74, after reports of torture and declining health in captivity, Stephen is finally free to recover from an ordeal no one should have to endure. His release brings long-awaited relief to a family that spent years fearing for his life and fighting for his freedom.
Stephen, an American retired teacher, was detained in April 2022 in Izium, Ukraine. Russian authorities accused him of fighting as a mercenary for Ukraine. He was convicted in a closed-door trial in October 2024 and sentenced to nearly seven years in prison. His family disputed the allegations, and the United States formally designated him as wrongfully detained in January 2025.
Throughout Stephen’s detention, his sister, Patricia “Trisha” Hubbard Fox, fought tirelessly to bring him home. Hostage Aid advocated for Stephen from the beginning and remained in contact with his family, following and supporting their fight through times of uncertainty and concern for his well-being.
“We are really thankful for Stephen's release. He has lost years of his life to captivity that he can never get back. Today, we celebrate his freedom and applaud his sister, Trisha, whose determination to bring her brother home never wavered. I know the toll captivity takes, not only on the person behind bars, but also on his loved ones waiting outside. I hope Stephen can now begin his journey of healing, regain his strength & enjoy the comfort of being surrounded by the people who love him,” said Nizar Zakka, President & Founder of Hostage Aid Worldwide.
Hostage Aid is immensely grateful to President Trump and his administration for their role in securing Stephen’s release and urges the President to continue these efforts by pressing for the freedom of other Americans who remain wrongfully detained abroad.
