The irony is that a vast majority have watched countless adaptations but have never read Valmiki’s Ramayana or explored the literary traditions from which these stories emerge. We often judge adaptations against other adaptations, rather than the original literature.

Congress’s problem is not just the EVM. It is also the electoral math. In every Lok Sabha election from 1996 to 2024, Congress’s national vote share remained below 30%. The party made a significant recovery in 2024 by winning 99 seats, but its nationwide vote share was still approximately 21.2%. The seats increased. The national base remains limited. Journalist and author @MinhazMerchant argues that Congress’s traditional social coalition has gradually weakened. In his assessment, growing dependence on selected voter groups has failed to compensate for the party’s declining support across the wider electorate. An important distinction is necessary: Hindu and Muslim voters do not vote as uniform political blocs. Caste, class, region, language, leadership, candidates and local issues all shape electoral behaviour. No single community can adequately explain Congress’s rise or decline. The party’s deeper challenge is not merely consolidating anti-BJP votes. It must rebuild trust across states, communities and economic groups and create a broad national coalition capable of winning independently. The question is bigger than allegations against voting machines: Can Rahul Gandhi transform Congress from a party of opposition into a credible, broad-based and election-winning national alternative? Because in a democracy, governments are ultimately built through numbers, organisation and public trust not slogans alone.
