Yonatan Karlinsky, a 49-year-old Breslov chassid from Beitar Illit who holds Israeli and Ukrainian citizenship, was detained at the Romania-Ukraine border about a week and a half ago after traveling to Uman for Rosh Hashanah. He is being held at a detention camp near Odessa and will be assigned as a doctor to a military unit near Kharkiv, away from the front line, according to the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities say he is obligated to serve.
