I believe that the call to President Putin by the leaders of Norway and Finland was an important and positive development. Even though nothing was achieved to end the war, it is important for our survival to normalise diplomacy again. I know there are many politicians in places like Germany who recognise that we are heading towards a cliff and want to return to negotiations about the European security architecture, but diplomacy itself has become criminalised. Hopefully, this opens the door to bringing back common sense.
A key problem is that we confuse moralism with morality. Presenting all security competition as moral issues is great for moral posturing, but by presenting conflicts as a struggle between good and evil, we end up concluding that diplomacy is appeasement and that peace can only be achieved by defeating the 'evil' opponent. Moralism also stifles debate within our own societies, as opposition to policies framed as morally virtuous is automatically deemed illegitimate.
Maybe someday we will look back at this era of war hysteria and flirting with nuclear war as we now do with the Covid hysteria.

We are hearing increasing calls to increase military spending from European ruling elites like Jacob Rees Mogg because they have lost their legitimacy and sacrificed their nations' economies for conflicts with Russia and Iran
They must transition to a state of war and permanent emergency to preserve their rule, stripping away rights and wealth from the public while bombarding their populations with hysterical propaganda about Putin as the present day Hitler
If European leaders were serious about confronting evil or opposing a Holocaust, they would have stood up to Israel, not cheered it on as it burned Gaza to the ground
On Piers Morgan Uncensored, The Grayzone's Max Blumenthal slammed Jacob Rees-Mogg's call for a major hike in British military spending and slashing "stupid welfare":
"When this war economy starts, and when the war actually starts, and they start tempting nuclear annihilation, it's going to be the poor and working class children who go and fight for Latvia and Estonia against Putin.
It's not going to be the children of the wealthy elite. And that's a sacrifice that Jacob is willing to make."

Exactly 12 hours after our "warning," President Trump has INTERVENED:
Yesterday, at 7:35 PM ET, we posted that "oil prices are no longer the biggest threat to markets."
We said it has become increasingly clear that "bond markets will dictate just how long President Trump can continue increase pressure in the Iran War."
At 4:30 AM ET today, we noted that bond market is now more "broken" than the energy market situation.
Then, as the 10Y Note Yield hit 4.45% last night, President Trump likely had the same conversation as he did on April 9th, 2025, when he paused tariffs for 90-days.
3 hours later, President Trump postponed all strikes on Iranian power plants for 5 days and said the US and Iran have had "productive" talks to end the war. And, the intervention becomes even more clear.
30 minutes later, Iran denied President Trump's claims and said Trump is trying to "buy time" by calming markets.
The 10Y Yield briefly collapsed before rebounding back to 4.38% now, a clear attempt by the US to contain the brewing bond market crisis.
The US simply cannot afford the 10Y Yield at 4.50%+.

Calling Maduro "a crazy conspiracy theorist" for arguing the CIA was trying to overthrow its government shows is a long-standing CIA/media tactic. As CIA destabilizes and overthrows governments in every region, the US corporate media disparages anyone who says this as a "fringe conspiracy theorist."
When CIA helped engineer the overthrow of Brazil's elected government in 1964 (replaced by a pro-US military junta), the NYT maligned as anti-American crazies those (in Brazil and the US) who insisted the CIA was centrally involved. (Of course, such people objecting to the CIA role also got accused of "denying agency to the Brazilian people" (standard propaganda line still used now for those opposed to CIA regime-change efforts)).
Much of the CIA file on Brazil's 1964 coup was declassified and released a decade later. Almost all of it now is. The proof of key CIA involvement and directing of the coup under first JFK and then LBJ is overwhelming.
Indeed, even the US Govt admits it played a decisive role in Brazil's coup after spending a decade angrily denying it and having the NYT and TIME do so as well (this same cycle repeated itself, and still does, in multiple countries).
But it never matters: the next time someone says "the CIA is trying to regime-change country X," their friendly media call everyone "conspiracy theorists" until the full files are released the next decade.

Remember the energy expended to silence and DISCREDIT anyone pointing to Nato expansion as ONE of the causes of the war and that if Nato membership for Ukraine was taken off the table, the war could have been avoided/stopped?
At Quincy, we were attacked from every direction for pointing out this reasonable assessment.
And now, Sloat says in an interview that had Ukraine opted for neutrality, it "may well have" prevented the war and the invasion.
Now, after 100,000s dead and many voices in the West who pointed this out at the time silenced or discredited, Sloat asks "Would that [Ukraine neutrality] have been better to do before the war started [or]... in the Istanbul talks (April 2024)? It certainly would have prevented the destruction and the loss of life."
But remember, at the time, arguing that taking the FALSE option of Ukraine NATO membership (since the US had no plan of letting Ukraine into NATO anyways) was met with disdain. The argument was not that it wouldn't work, but rather, "NATO expansion has nothing to do with the war and if you say that it does, you are on Putin's side."
Those who killed the chance to prevent the war should be remembered similarly as those who started this illegal invasion - as well as those who started the illegal invasion of Iraq.

The world's dumbest people spent last night accusing Steve Witkoff of "treason" for his talks with Russia to end the war.
The problem for them is that US foreign policy isn't determined by Bill Kristol or Michael McFaul. It's determined by the elected President, Donald Trump, who campaigned on a vow to end the war in Ukraine.
Trump said Witkoff is doing the job he gave him. That's the opposite of "treason."
Reporter: Have you heard this audio that Bloomberg has of Witkoff coaching the Russians on how to appeal to you?
Trump: Well, I haven’t heard it, no. But that’s a standard thing, you know, because he’s got to sell this to Ukraine. He’s got to sell Ukraine to Russia. That’s what a dealmaker does. You’ve got to say, “Look, they want this, you’ve got to convince them of this.” You know, that’s a very standard form of negotiation. I haven’t heard it, but I heard it was standard negotiation. And I would imagine he’s saying the same thing to Ukraine, because each party has to give and take.

Yes, both this leak and the Flynn leak is the NSA using its powers not for what they're intended -- spying on foreign adversaries -- but instead spying on American citizens and American officials, then leaking their conversations to sabotage the elected President's policies.
