When AO3 is up, there was a discourse abt ppl critiquing writers and their skills. When AO3 is down and ppl are sharing downloaded fics, there’s now a huge discourse abt that. We can’t be free from discourse, huh?😮‍💨😮‍💨 Regarding this issue, my personal take is it all depends on the writer. As a writer myself, I cannot be happier and so honoured when I see my fics as part of the downloaded fics being passed around. It makes me happy that there are actually readers who loved my fics so much that they downloaded it and shared it with others. I found out early this year that someone downloaded a fic I wrote almost two decades ago on winglin (a site that has long been shut down) and uploaded it on wattpad. The way I actually cried when I found it. It’s an indescribable feeling, and it’s way beyond happiness. So yes, as a writer, I welcome it. However, again like I said, it’s up to the writer. If a writer feels uncomfortable with it and asked you to not include their works, pls listen and remove it. It’s the same when an artist tells you not to repost their work; this is EXACTLY the same. We, writers, put in the same amt of hard work and love in our works, so it’d be nice if you show the same amt of love and respect to writers’ works as you do to artists. For the writers who feel uncomfortable, do know that most of the readers saved your works because they absolutely loved what you have created. Sometimes, your works are what helped them go through the day. Sometimes, your works healed them of what they faced that week. You’re totally fine for not feeling comfortable abt it, so do reach out to get your works removed if you feel so. This is a long one because I kinda feel sad abt this discourse. I truly enjoyed seeing the different fandoms bond over sharing fics like getting blunts behind the alley, so I wasn’t expecting this discourse at all.😮‍💨😮‍💨 And oh, lastly, if you have read the saved works, pls go to the actual fics on AO3 and give your kudos and comments once AO3 is up. Tell the writers how their works have saved you during this AO3 shutdown period. As a writer, pretty sure the writers would totally love and appreciate it.❤️❤️
