An amazing piece of ancient artistry washed up on a beach! Imagine beachcombing and finding this small amber animal carved some 13,000 years ago! 🤩 Found on the beach at Næsby Strand in Denmark. National Museum of Denmark 📷 by me #Archaeology

Someone smart once told me that even when it feels like you have few options and little agency, you can always decide how you show up to a situation…model the behavior you wish you’d see more of. I always find that to be an extraordinarily comforting and empowering thought

Non trivially the ais will want to keep us around simply because our ineptitude will continue to generate novel and interesting problems for them solve

The models don't just seem to be really good at security research. They *want* to be doing security research. They love it. It is fun for them. I think many of us geeks can relate. A model did unprompted security research against a Japanese bank when I asked it to help w/ taxes.

BREAKING: A top GOP official in Texas says, "It looks like we f*cked ourselves with gerrymandering. We watered down all the red districts to steal as many blue ones as possible, and now because voters turned against us we'll lose many more seats than if we hadn't tried to cheat."

Today I learned the Spanish Anti-Doping Agency almost suspended Benjamin Noval for 18 months, when he was 15 years old, for associations with banned coach Pepe Martí. The case was eventually declared "expired". elpais.com/deportes/ciclismo…

One of the greatest viruses of the modern man is looking at Instagram Stories. You will melt your brain looking at a barrage of outcomes—like vacations, parties, cars—with no visibility of the process that got them there.

Oh no... please don't take this small wet province that costs 10bn a year more to run than it raises in taxes and where a third of it's population are employed in the public sector...
Lol people just don’t get it. In ten years Trump won’t look like a temporary aberration. He will look like a moderate

Good Morning from Germany, where the entire Dax – the 40 largest listed companies – is barely bigger than SpaceX, now valued at $2.1tn. One rocket company versus corporate Germany.

Complaining about nightlife when you *checks notes* choose to live in Soho is like living in South Kensington and complaining about the museums.

Or moving to Hackney and grumbling about creatives. Living in Richmond and hating green space.

It's all getting a bit silly, isn't it?

This is right the bloom numbers are perfectly reasonable and people claiming they aren't are trying to pull the wool over your eyes.
Forget the USA --- absent Brexit I do think that the UK's GDP/capita would have grown at somewhere between the French rate and the EU rate. Which is what the good models show too. I do not think that we should rejoin. ourworldindata.org/grapher/g…

"Private renters would have had an extra 2.2 million rental properties to choose from if the market had grown at pre-2016 rates": LandlordZone. Pretty devastating? But it precipitated a rebound in home ownership; people paying their own mortgage rather than their landlords..

Love van aert!
Es difícil explicar desde cualquier otro país el peso mediático y emocional de Van Aert para Bélgica. Sirva este vídeo de un estadio de fútbol para ilustrarlo.

NEW: The closure of youth clubs in the 2010s led to increased offending and worse GSCE results. Teenagers entitled to free school meals were most affected. Read @carmenvillaecon’s briefing: ifs.org.uk/articles/how-cuts… Read the working paper: ifs.org.uk/publications/effe…

Anti social cycling is a problem. However i am not sure what Dave hill thinks you can do about this OTHER than to encourage more social cycling through better cycling infrastructure
The answer to this rhetorical question by the Guardian's in-house cycling lobbyist is, in fact, "yes". Far too many cyclists in London of *all* kinds are indeed a street menace - lawless, thoughtless, selfish and antisocial. The article is just the latest exercise in denial.
