Iโm starting to see some interesting parallels between the evolution of NFT marketplaces on Solana and whatโs happening with wallets today.
If you were around during the early days of Solana NFTs, you remember when Solanart dominated the marketplace landscape.
Over time, the team became increasingly unreceptive to community feedback, the platform failed to evolve with its users, and competitors saw an opportunity.
Then @MagicEden came along.
Almost overnight, the marketplace landscape began shifting. Solanart went from being the dominant player to becoming virtually irrelevant. No one entering the ecosystem today even knows they ever existed.
I can't help but see a similar pattern emerging with @phantom
I've always loved Phantom as a brand. They played an enormous role in onboarding users into Solana and helping the ecosystem grow.
But somewhere along the way, the product experience started moving backwards.
What was once a beautifully simple, intuitive wallet has become increasingly complicated and cluttered with features that, in my opinion, detract from its original purpose.
I've watched more and more experienced users move away from Phantom in favor of alternatives like @solflare and @JupiterExchange wallet.
If people who have spent years navigating crypto find your wallet unnecessarily complicated, imagine what someone downloading their first crypto wallet experiences.
There's a fundamental difference between adding functionality and improving a product.
More features don't automatically translate into a better user experience.
Phantom still has an incredible brand, distribution, and a massive opportunity ahead of it. I genuinely want to see them succeed.
But Solanart taught us something important about this ecosystem:
Being the dominant platform today doesn't guarantee you'll be the platform people use tomorrow.
Users are loyal to experiences, not incumbents.
And in crypto, switching costs are nonexistent.
Replying to @orca_so
@orca_so and @Loopscale just merged to form @formation_so, and I think this is a pretty significant development for Solana.
Orca has processed $500B+ in trading volume, while Loopscale has facilitated over $2B in loans.
The interesting part isn't those numbers. It's what combining their infrastructure could unlock.
Bringing traditional financial assets onchain is one thing. Providing the liquidity, lending markets, and investor access needed to make those assets useful is another.
That's what Formation is trying to solve.
Think tokenized debt, private credit, and other financial assets that institutions can issue, trade, and potentially use as collateral.
Formation is also working with Figure, Superstate, Securitize, R3, and Shinhan Asset Management.
Why does this matter?
If Formation can reduce the friction involved in issuing and financing these assets, it could help bring significantly more institutional capital onchain.
For investors, I'd be watching what assets launch, how much liquidity they attract, and whether $ORCA captures any of that growth.
Solana already has the infrastructure for high-volume trading. Formation is betting it can become a much bigger part of global capital markets.
I've been digging into @sunrise and I think a lot of people misunderstand what they're actually building.
Sunrise isn't the issuer, a bridge or a market maker.
It's effectively an asset gateway for Solana.
Take an asset that exists somewhere else โ HYPE, SUI, AVAX, a tokenized stock, an ETF โ and there's a surprisingly large amount of coordination required to create a real market for it on another chain.
You need a canonical mint.
You need cross-chain infrastructure.
You need liquidity.
You need DEX routing.
You need wallets and aggregators to recognize it.
And ideally all of that exists the moment the asset goes live.
Sunrise is trying to collapse that entire process into one distribution layer.
The result is pretty interesting:
An asset can arrive on Solana and immediately plug into the existing liquidity and application layer instead of spending months building an isolated market.
That's a much bigger business than "bringing stocks onchain."
They're trying to become the default entrance for assets coming into Solana.
