🇩🇪🇱🇹 NEW: GERMANY AND LITHUANIA SIGN MAJOR NEW DEFENCE AGREEMENT - EXPANDING COOPERATION ACROSS NATO'S EASTERN FLANK.
On November 4, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius and Lithuanian Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas signed a new Strategic Defence Cooperation Declaration at the Berlin Security Conference.
The agreement significantly expands military cooperation beyond Germany's permanent brigade deployment in Lithuania.
Key areas include:
• Air defence and counter-drone capabilities.
• Military intelligence and electronic warfare.
• Cyber defence and hybrid threats.
• Space security and defence.
• Joint military exercises and faster military mobility.
• Defence industry cooperation and joint procurement.
Lithuania also confirmed that construction of the Rūdninkai military base is progressing ahead of schedule.
Germany's permanent brigade, comprising approximately 5,000 military and civilian personnel, is expected to reach full operational capability by the end of 2027.
The new declaration aims to further integrate German and Lithuanian forces, improve interoperability and strengthen NATO's eastern flank.
Importantly, this is a strategic cooperation framework, not an announcement of additional troop deployments or new weapons contracts.
A separate action plan will establish how the commitments are implemented.
