You should start by auditing my paper on marijuana, alcohol, and smoking trends. All of the data are public. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
I've been prototyping an automated peer review project. With current models you get human level peer review for about $0.10 of tokens. For $5 you can rederive every result, check every statistical inference, and audit every paper cited in both directions.
There are about 100m papers in the scientific corpus. Most are not important. Many are sloppy. For structural reasons it's essentially impossible to change published work, even to correct a typo.
For $500m today you can thoroughly audit every paper ever written. Every p-hacked result, every plagiarist, every fabrication, every citation club, everything.
I don't have $500m so instead I build a tree, focusing on the 1% of papers that carry 99% of the signal, doing a cheap first pass looking for obvious problems. I can find 90% of the nonsense for a few hundred dollars of tokens.
Any guesses where the biggest surprises will be found?
We live in e-cigarette anarchy.
FDA has no control over flavored nicotine products entering the market, with more circulating the market than ever before. Yet, youth e-cigarette use is dropping. Nicotine use is also dropping among all adult age groups.
Replying to @jacobjamesrich
@jacobjamesrich asks panelists at @foodanddruglaw:
What is the public health benefit of ecig device locking when youth use has declined despite widespread availability of flavored illicit products?
What exactly are prediction markets? Should they be regulated like gambling? I discuss these topics in my latest commentary for @ReasonFdn. reason.org/commentary/predic…

While often conflated, prediction markets are fundamentally different from sportsbooks. Look no further than their incentive structure. "Prediction market companies, like Kalshi, do not care who wins any game. That is because the price of any wager is set to the actuarially fair price, and prediction markets make money on transaction fees rather than betting against their customers," writes @jacobjamesrich in @ReasonFdn's latest: reason.org/commentary/predic…
The American Lung Association continues to claim that e-cigarettes cause popcorn lung or EVALI—neither is true.
These false claims undermine their credibility, which is bad because we actually need them to identify potential long-term risks that have yet to be identified.
You can read the whole piece by the @LungAssociation editorial staff here: lung.org/blog/vaping-isnt-ha…
Come on @propublica. It takes 35 paragraphs before you mention that the liver damage was caused by the herb corydalis, not marijuana. propublica.org/article/color…
Not much discussion of this massive win for THR since publication, but JAMA recently published guidelines for using e-cigarettes to help smokers quit. US News just covered the shift in position: usnews.com/news/health-news/…
According to @RetractionWatch, @andrewkolodny is pressuring @JAMAInternalMed to retract an article by Roth et al. (2000) on controlled-release oxycodone due to alleged data manipulation. retractionwatch.com/2026/08/…
Kolodny et al. allege data manipulation: retractionwatch.com/wp-conte…
Yet, JAMA Internal Medicine has resisted retraction, claiming "We saw no evidence of fabrication or falsification in the published article."

HUGE!! @JAMA_current releases guidance for doctors on vaping as a method to stop smoking, based on research from the international Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…
It'd be nice if the Library of Congress put together a public database for state codes and statutes, with historic amendment updates. The fact that you need to pay to access legislative history is nuts.
Drug addiction has remained stable among adults and has dropped among teens over the past 5 years. samhsa.gov/data/sites/defaul…
"Why Teen Cannabis and Nicotine Co-Use Is Rising"
Actually, it's not @PsychToday.
According to the NYTS, current tobacco use declined from 2022–2025, while past-year marijuana use remained stable.
Technically, there is a way that co-use could rise amid a decline in tobacco use, but it's unlikely. @PsychToday never provides evidence for the claim in its article: psychologytoday.com/us/blog/…
