All the ANC had to do was provide honest, effective and clean governance... hire & appoint talented, ethical and effective people to city jobs... and get rid of incompetence, corruption and cronyism in their ranks.
But I guess that was a step too far.

On June 5th, President Trump said "I'd be honored to meet him." He was talking about Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamanei.
14-15 May, Trump visited China and said Xi Jinping is "very smart," has "great stature" is "all business." But that was not the first time. In 2017, whilst in China during his first term, Trump said Xi is "a very special man" and "highly respected and powerful representative of his people."
Did you also have a fit of pique then? Or you are just a bully? Bullying a nation that consistently overlooks your rudeness and affords you so much grace and courtesy?
The Government of South Africa rolls out the red carpet for Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, while Deputy President Mashatile is in Beijing deepening ties with China. Pretoria calls this "non-alignment." We call it what it is: a choice. The South African people deserve an honest conversation about who their government is choosing to stand with. #NotSoNonAligned

What a thought-provoking post. Ambassador, it would be good if you could articulate what your understanding of "American Exceptionalism" is in the context of your role as a diplomat and the current fragmentation of the global order, which the USA has precipitated. No nation with a complex and sometimes contradictory global record can credibly claim moral exceptionalism. Is it political exceptionalism? In what way?
President Trump's speech in Riyadh last year was very instructive in dismantling the old world of hierarchies. Was he playing to the gallery? Because your invocation of "execeptionalism" in global affairs is incongruous with his message.
Exceptionalism is conceptually incompatible with equality. It creates hierarchies. Exceptionalism sits uneasily alongside the principles of sovereign equality and mutual respect that underpin modern diplomacy. Perhaps the future is not exceptionalism but interdependence? I'm sure we will get to know your thoughts through dialogue and mutual regard for each other's agency. Enjoy South Africa.
Honored to present a copy of my Letters of Credence @DIRCO_ZA today. I’m eager to begin this chapter in strengthening the U.S.–South Africa partnership.
I look forward to advancing U.S. priorities that build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous America, grounded in American exceptionalism and shared opportunity.
