In our experience, no religious body in America has expended more energy to protect the free exercise of religion for all — and taken less public credit — than The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “

| recently saw a post encouraging its readers to avoid teaching Elder Rasband's talk on the family proclamation because it might be problematic and hurtful to those whose families don't meet the ideal.
In truth, no family meets the ideal. We are all imperfect, and so are our families.
What's different now, 30 years after the proclamation was introduced, is that we have different social issues affecting the family.
The lgbtq movement has swept over western civilization like a tidal wave, leaving few families untouched.
The issues of the past—death, divorce, fornication, cohabitation, out-of-wedlock births, abortion, infidelity and even abuse—were never cause for dismissing the family proclamation.
We understood that even in imperfect situations, our hope was always in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ and His ability to shoulder our burdens and bind up our broken hearts.
The ideal gave us hope for better things to come, whether in this life or the next. It gave us eternal perspective and understanding.
In my opinion, the national recognition of same-sex marriage in 2015 changed everything.
The laws of the land broke from the laws of God. What was once taboo was now normal, accepted and even encouraged.
Opening the door to same-sex marriage also opened the door to things like rampant gender confusion, especially among children and youth.
For some, these "new issues" affecting the family justify ignoring-and even fighting against-the eternal doctrine and prophetic counsel found in the family proclamation.
Instead of turning towards the only One who can bring hope and healing, many sadly turn away feeling that these issues are too big for Jesus Christ, that they are somehow unreachable by His atoning sacrifice.
I testify that they are not.
God gives us commandments for our ultimate benefit and happiness, not just in this life, but in the next. Keeping them is not always easy, but He always provides a way. Always.
The way Jesus Christ.
The family proclamation is the solution because it points us toward Him.

The Church deletes their general conference YouTube Livestreams after they put out the videos of all the segments.
I'm posting this so people can still see this beautiful comment after it's gone.

Brothers and Sisters, it is with great pleasure to present to you Elder Kevin Brown
“Joy we feel has little to do with our circumstances and everything to do with where our focus is.” Really beautiful words here and great reminder that Joy CAN be felt even during the worst circumstances if our focus remains directly on Christ.

“Agency is more than the ability to choose—it is the responsibility to choose well.” — Elder Kevin G. Brown #GeneralConference

This morning, I described how blessed it is to be a peacemaker and how peacemaking begins in the most basic place: in our hearts, then in homes and families.
As we practice there, peacemaking will spread into our neighborhoods and communities.
Peacemakers are sometimes labeled naive or weak from all sides. Yet, to be a peacemaker is not to be weak, but to be strong in a way the world may not understand.

The Family Proclamation ***IS*** doctrine.
It is not commentary, it is not opinion, it is not optional.
If you disagree with what it says, you are in error and you need to pray that God will help you change your heart and bring it into alignment with OFFICIAL DOCTRINE.
This talk by Kevin Brown is absolutely fire 🔥. “Choosing to believe is a wise and powerful way to use the gift of agency.” Work for your testimony, nurture it, and strengthen it.

Props to Stevenson for opening up General Conference with something based on the Sermon on the Mount.
Blessed are the Peacemakers.
Probably a nod to Nelson, but to me, there is nothing as needed in society right now.
I can stay in a church focused on the beatitudes
The first talk of conference about peacemaking was exactly what I needed to hear. Reading so many comments and threads with that pastor bashing the church I think it’d help a lot of people on this app center your focus elsewhere.

My father said not to wrestle with pigs in the mud—you both get dirty, and the pigs enjoy it. Now with the internet, they also gain from the algorithm and profit from your engagement.
Stop responding to those seeking fame by hating the church. Share truth on your timeline and ignore the haters. Don't cast pearls before swine. Block people like Mark Driscoll and fill your timeline with praising God. Don't waste it trying to battle with someone who is without feeling.
