A mid 40s dude who deconstructed Mormonism and is now all f’ed up. A bit obsessed with Mormon history and Biblical scholarship.

You don’t get it, do you. You treat 7:30 a.m. ward meetings, filling in for a deacon, and “comforting the widow” inside your specific building as the measurable definition of reducing suffering. Anything else, coffee, football, a drive, or just not showing up is automatically “self-service” and “evil.” Then you demand that people who left prove, to your satisfaction, that they now reduce more suffering than when they were active. But the only activities that count as “good” in your view are the ones the Church assigns. So your demand is unfalsifiable. If they don’t list Mormon callings, they’re selfish; if they do, they should still be going. You’re not really asking a question of how me or anyone else serves humanity. You’re just making a bullshit loyalty test to your own idea of the world. Because you know nothing else. You’ve spent the day labeling people who skip your meetings as objectively crappier, more self-serving, and sources of evil while taking the moral high ground for doing what your bishop told you to do. All you’re doing is equating institutional compliance with goodness and then getting mad when others don’t accept your worldview.

I don’t go to church because I’m selfish, just want to drink coffee, have a relaxing time watching football and going for a drive. This is what it comes down to. There is never a legitimate reason for losing belief. Today it’s selfishness. Although there are perks for not going to that waste-of-time 7 am meeting and instead hiking in the mountains.
Replying to @stackerco
@stackerco goes to Church and just pokes holes in the lesson. He doesn’t ask the new face in Sunday School where they are from, in fact, he probably wouldn’t recognize the new face because he never goes. He doesn’t fill in the for deacon who’s out of town and help pass or bless the Sacrament. He certainly doesn’t teach the lesson. He doesn’t comfort the widow. He doesn’t sit in 7:30 AM meetings talking about the individual’s who have needs in the ward. No, Stacker sleeps in. He has his coffee. Maybe go and get some breakfast. He turns on some football perhaps. Maybe a nice drive in the mountains. A little nappy. Stacker doesn’t go to Church, because he only cares about himself and his own comforts. Which is great, I’m sure he’s very comfortable on Sundays! Sunday funday, right?? Because Church is about serving others, Stacker doesn’t enjoy participating in Church. And he loves when others do the same.

This interview with Mike is excellent. Who knew the funny guy was also deep? When you see angry exmos, you just see the anger that has come out online and you have no idea what has led up to this.

In January 2020, Russel M Nelson, said the next April conference would be a hinge point in the history of the church. If April 2020 was really some prophetic and historic hinge point in the Restoration, what actually changed in the Church's doctrine, authority, or understanding of God that made it such a turning point? Here’s what happened in that April Conference. You tell me: 1. A new proclamation restating existing claims about Joseph Smith and the Restoration. 2. A worldwide Hosanna Shout, a ritual already used at temple dedications. 3. A new Church logo with Jesus 4. The #HearHim encouraging us to seek personal revelation. 5. Eight new temple announcements. Were these hinge points? Or were they just changes that were mostly administrative, ceremonial, or repetitions of existing teachings?

I went to church today. First time in a minute. Come Follow Me was about Jeremiah. The lesson focused on doctrine about pre existence and following modern prophets. But looking at Jeremiah more broadly, the most compelling theme of Jeremiah isn't LDS doctrine at all. Jeremiah was fighting the established religious leaders and other prophets. His big thing was warning the religious community that their confidence in their sacred institutions was a dangerous substitute for confronting their actual behavior. This is one more story showing a collision between religious certainty and their own ethics. Judah was about to fall and Judah possessed what its religious establishment regarded as legitimate sacred institutions, authority, temple, covenant traditions, and people who claimed to speak in God's name. Sound familiar? Jeremiah's message was that none of those things mattered and Judah would fall. That the people needed to reexamine their treatment of others, allegiance to YHWH, not their confidence in their system. And Jeremiah faced tough opposition from people and leaders and even prophets who believed their own religious interpretation was correct. There’s a big part of the OT that will not be taught in church. That’s the fact OT prophets were largely not church leaders at all but continually spoke against them and tried to correct religious leaders.

So apparently, LDS leaders have always been insane. In 1857, LDS leader John D. Lee helped massacre 120 innocent men, women, and children at Mountain Meadows. See how easy that is, Kirk? Or should we agree that cherry-picking an extremist to characterize an entire group is intellectually dishonest?
So apparently the anti-Mormons have always been insane Picture is a illustrated front page of a real 1884 anti-Mormon pamphlet by William Jarman, an English convert who lived in Utah for about twelve years, left the church

At the end, Mikey summarizes a great point for many of us. Why does it matter if we’re active or inactive or exMormon or Mormon? Is that 90% of what we care about? Picking sides?

Mormon critics. I beg you. If you’re going to criticize, do your homework, know what you’re talking about and don’t be an ignorant fool and say stupid stuff like this:
Mormons believe good Mormon men get a planet full of virgins! 👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️ Talk about recruitment strategies! 🤪 Let’s see if any LDS Men repost this 😁

🚨 TODAY IN CHRISTIAN EMBARRASSING HISTORY 📅 c. AD 51 Apostle Paul told the Thessalonians that “we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord” would be caught up to meet him, and that “the time is short,” “the Lord is at hand,” and “the night is far gone; the day is at hand.” 2,000 years later, apparently there was no need to rush. #Christianity #NewTestament #SecondComing
🚨 TODAY IN LDS EMBARRASSING HISTORY 📅 October 20, 1850 Mormon apostle Wilford Woodruff told a congregation he dreamed that the deceased Joseph and Hyrum Smith were in the spirit world, frantically preparing because the time was set for Christ’s return. 176 years later, apparently there was no need to rush. #LDS #MormonHistory

The lack of self awareness form Christians criticizing other religions is embarrassing.

And I’ll add this to it too:
I challenge every Mormon on X to REPOST 🔁 this quote from your own church’s 5th president. Let’s see how many of you are willing to publicly stand behind it. “As man now is, God once was: As God now is, man may be.” — Lorenzo Snow, 5th President of the LDS Church #LatterDaySaints #LDS #ChurchOfJesusChrist #ComeUntoChrist #HearHim #BookOfMormon #BecauseOfHim #RestoredGospel #LDSChurch #MormonFaith

Wanna know how I know calling people Mormons is not inherently a slur or offensive and any pearl clutching on the topic is just a performative persecution complex: 1000s of Mormons just cheered with enthusiastic joy upon a Pat McAfee calling them Mormons.
