An 18-year old Staff Sergeant in WW2. Battlefield commission to 2LT. Tours in Korea and Vietnam to follow, and standing up to pressure from superior officers amidst a politically unpopular war. A great American. A well-lived life. And, incredible perspective in these times:

Thiel on the Iran war: "I think we should not have done it"
NEWS: I obtained a recording of Peter Thiel's latest Nashville Antichrist lectures. In his third talk delivered on Oct. 12, he breaks with the Trump admin on the U.S. war with Iran. “I think we should not have done it,” he said. “There were a lot of mistakes that were made.” politico.com/news/2026/10/21…

US officials cited here think that an intense, brief (as in, a few days) air campaign will push Iran into making concessions on its nuclear program. These predictions have been made before. They have proven incorrect. Iran is broadly signaling it is ready for an attack, that it expects one, and will retaliate aggressively. Trump has yet to make a decision. nytimes.com/2026/10/21/us/po…

Many aircrews in Iran theater just got extended to April 2027. This will be over a year deployment. The damage to retention, and families, will be massive. Especially in the Guard and Reserves. This is not due to the war. It’s due to awful planning by Hegseth

You don't get to say this if you never made a case the American people as to why they *must* sacrifice alongside our men in uniform to combat a threat you've effectively illustrated for them. Let alone getting Congress to endorse your case to engage us in a conflict.
President Trump: "When people are unhappy with the gasoline, I hate to sound trivial...They say it themselves. It's a big price, but actually it's a small price to pay for not letting Iran have a nuclear weapon."

The guy who said he was going to slice through bureaucracy to enable efficiency and lethality for the warfighter sure sounds like a bureaucrat hindering the warfighters
Asked about Ukraine's satellite service, War Secretary Pete Hegseth said there are "terms of service" that need to be complied with.

Per @Liz_Friden The U.S. is sending the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Middle East, two U.S. officials confirm to Fox News. The ships will arrive in the Middle East by the end of November, the officials said. These new deployments will add about 10,000 Sailors and Marines to the Middle East. The USS Roosevelt will be the third aircraft carrier in the Middle East, joining the USS George H.W. Bush which arrived to the region in April, and the USS George Washington which arrived in mid-August to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln. This will provide more options for the U.S. as President Trump is reportedly considering ramping up strikes on Iran after the Midterms.  The USS Roosevelt departed its home port of San Diego on Sunday and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit deployed from San Diego on Monday along with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group. The Marine Expeditionary Unit and Amphibious Ready Group typically include about 4,200 Marines and Sailors. The USS Roosevelt carrier strike group includes about 6,000 Sailors.
