Just a friendly reminder for all of you business owner-types who want to drive traffic on social media: SEO drives 1,000% MORE TRAFFIC than organic social media. However, we are often drawn to social media because it is easy to track clicks, analytics, etc., from the social media dashboard. Clicks are good, right? 96.55% of all indexed pages get zero love (i.e., search traffic) from Google. I have seen this play out for most of my clients. They drive good traffic overall, but under the microscope, a small handful of pages do all the heavy lifting. So, organic search is absolutely still the way forward, and if I am being honest, it is a grind. It costs a lot. It takes a long time. It isn't easy. But when it hits, it hits hard and pays dividends for years (more on that in a little bit). If you need a ghostwriter, I can do that. But let me tell you, for future gains, invest in your web content. It matters that much.

I've never thirsted for nog harder than right now.
Hot take that really shouldn’t be a hot take: eggnog is absolutely disgusting.   It’s made of raw eggs, milk, and loaded with saturated fat. Gross.

Looking for the right voice for your aviation brand? Do you understand that taking a Chatbot and asking it to sound like you...sounds like everyone else doing the same thing? Is your content getting buried on your site because it was cheap to mass-produce and sounds exactly like AI slop (because it is)? That is why I am here, and this is what I do. Howdy! I am John McCoy, a professional aviation & aerospace writer, SEO writer, content strategist, and content manager. 20+ years in aviation and 10+ years in SEO writing. I found out that my recently deceased uncle used to mule bales of marijuana from Mexico to Oklahoma. I also found out that his deceased sister used to lift prescription pills from my grandfather's clinic while she was a nurse. The 70s was a wild time, man.

A few industries are where you simply shouldn't rely on a generalist, and aviation is probably at the top of the list. If you had an annual due, would you call a local handyman? Of course not. That's not an indictment of the handyman, but he isn't qualified to conduct an annual on a private jet. Well, why would you hire a generic media firm to write your web copy, emails, landing pages, and other copy for your aviation company? You really shouldn't. It's nothing personal, but they lack practical industry understanding and real-world experience. A first-person anecdote is compelling, and a writer with no knowledge of flight or aviation can't do that. Think about who you hire before you hire them; content creation is more than just clicks and analytics.

People like to work with people they like. I'm not saying this is more important than your skills, but I've outlasted people more skilled than me my whole life.

I ask every person I talk to two questions: What are you building, and why? That is why I reach out to people for a call; I genuinely want to see what is happening in the industry I’ve been part of my whole adult life. There are a lot of great minds in this industry doing really cool things like leveraging emerging technologies (not just AI) and rethinking the old ways. The more I dig in, the more I realize some things may never change, but others are well on their way. The aviation industry is huge, so you can't really keep tabs on everything. But I have also found that the builders and makers in this industry are warm, friendly, and happy to talk about what they are doing. If you are a builder, founder, or owner of a small business in aviation or aero, I'd love to talk. I am particularly focused on bizav, AOGs, MROs, FBOs, airport & airspace, and aftermarket parts. No shade on GA; it’s just not my focus, but if you are building something cool for the GA community, hit me up! DMs are open; let’s talk.

One of the worst parts about aviation, in my opinion, is all of the opinions. My lord. EVERYONE has an opinion, and if you do not know as much as they do, yours is probably wrong. Well, I don't totally agree with that. At all. So, instead of trying to deal with the likes of those, my approach is a lot different. I talk to the builders. Afterward, I take notes from the call and talk about what they are doing. How are they helping move it forward into the future rather than damning it to the dustbin of time? Then I create some posts, and write up an article on what they are doing, and why it is cool, and what problem it solves. Not everyone likes this, and I don't have a problem with that. What I do want to do is hear from the founders. The problem solvers. The aviators who know that there are problems but instead of looking the other way, do something about it. Want to talk and get some free publicity (yes, it is free. No strings attached.)? Let's talk about what you're doing. Hit me up in the DMs.

I think people forget that it's now been over three years since ChatGPT first really hit the stage. What has happened? All of us know intuitively, within a second or two, that we're reading AI content, and all of us skim right over it. AI is a fantastic tool for organizing your thoughts and increasing productivity, but it sucks as a storyteller. It sucks for branding, and it sucks for getting your message across. It isn't just good enough. It's not anywhere near good enough.
I cannot disagree more with this idea: "If you don't build an audience now, it will be IMPOSSIBLE in 18 months because AI content will be so good that no one will trust new creators." I've heard this fearmongering BS from dozens of people in the past 6 months. It's another example of the AI bubble making people stupid. The AI hype is so big that we're ignoring human psychology and common sense. If you actually take 2 seconds to think about this, you'll realize: - People love people and human creativity. That's not going to change. - From now until the end of time, people will want useful or entertaining content from real humans. - More tools will help us identify AI-generated content. - You can show the behind-the-scenes of how your content is made. (Just like watchmakers or blacksmiths show their physical product creation process, creators will too.) - Humans don't value pure information. They value information that comes from a trusted person or brand. People will always consume content from creators that have: Taste Personality A point of view REAL experience - The human desire for novel and different ideas is endless. The world wants new writers, creators, and brands. That will never go away. Your window of opportunity is not closing. The sooner you start, the better. But if you have a bit of talent and you're obsessed with building an audience, "AI" won't shut you out.
