Getting close to the end with 84.4% counted. The likely final outcome based on this batch is 55 for the Likud bloc, 54 for the Eisenkot bloc and 15 for the Arab parties. Most of the Arab votes have already been counted, so we can expect a relatively steep decline there.

Madeley: "Do you think welfare spendings out of control?" Maguire: "I don't think its out of control if you look at the total figure.. its only 10.6% of the economy, which is low by European standards" Singh: "And over half of the welfare budget is pensions, the state pension"
Portes "Theres a lot of nonsense talked, including on Sky, about the spiralling welfare bill.. as a proportion of our national income.. its lower than it was 15yrs ago & its pretty much back to what it was under Thatcher.. this idea its out of control is just wrong" Spot on!

In the wake of the @BoardofDeputies declaring @TheGreenParty racist, it's worth examining its history and the extraordinary political influence it holds. 2018: Its then president publicly accused @jeremycorbyn of holding antisemitic views amid controversy over Israel and Zionism. 2024: Opposed the UK withdrawing its challenge to the @IntlCrimCourt's jurisdiction over Israel, then condemned arrest warrants against Israeli leaders accused of war crimes. 2025: Launched disciplinary proceedings against 36 of its own Jewish deputies after they publicly condemned Israel's war in Gaza. Five were initially suspended for two years; 31 were reprimanded. 2026: Contacted @andyburnham's team to express serious concerns over his criticism of Israel's conduct in Gaza. October 2026: Voted 118–1 to declare @TheGreenParty racist over its position on Zionism, urging other parties to distance themselves. The danger here is the extraordinary political influence this organisation holds. The Board serves as secretariat to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on British Jews, has direct access to ministers and Parliament, and describes itself as the government's first port of call on Jewish community concerns. But whose interests is that influence actually serving? There's a world of difference between protecting British Jewish people from antisemitism and protecting the Israeli state from criticism and international accountability. #GazaGenocide #FreePalestine

Spanish train collision: Unofficial figures are rising. The Objective, a Spanish news site, now reports at least 50 dead, citing Civil Protection, while ABC and El Español still say 46.

Haringey council failed to disclose thousands of fire safety fixes to the Regulator, including repairs to fire alarms, structural fire protections and external cladding. 9 years since Grenfell, and still nothing learned.

🚨 Spain: Two trains have collided near Urda, Toledo, with three carriages overturning down an embankment. At least 10 people are reported dead, according to Spanish media and Andalusia's emergencies minister. El Español cites police sources saying the death toll could be between 30 and 40, but there is no official confirmed toll yet. The trains were carrying 540 passengers between them, with many injured. The Madrid–Andalucía rail line has been suspended.

Don't ever think that the hard right would be content if every migrant and every Muslim were removed from the UK. In a heart beat they would find some other group to attack; greens, teens, single mums, cyclists, cat owners, train spotters etc etc. They need someone else to blame & be angry with. For some reason they can't begin to see that it might be the rich & privileged public figures, like Farage, Lowe & Musk, who deliberately fuel their anger, who really deserve their contempt.

Will @pressgazette nominate Hungarian backed Times Higher Education for not mentioning Associate Professor James Orr while concentrating on Professor Arday? Our media is sick and broken
Replying to @carolecadwalla
And it does make the non coverage of James Orr pretty whiffy given his Hungarian connections & funding. Also, this tiny publication that abandoned a months’ long investigation into Arday following one legal letter? It’s been valued at £360m!

A new nuclear power station in England has been branded a "terrible deal" for taxpayers. Sizewell C was supposed to cost £20bn. It's now expected to cost between £40.5bn and £47.7bn, with construction finishing between 2039 and 2043. Ferries anyone? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cw0k…

"Government insiders have told the Guardian the project can be approved on a strict reading of Britain’s climate obligations, in part because once the oil is exported, the emissions from burning it no longer count against domestic targets. “Miatta has more latitude than you might think,” said one." This is insanity masquerading as creative accounting.
EXCL: The giant Rosebank oilfield can be approved without breaching the UK’s emission targets, according to government insiders, in a boost to those in the cabinet who are pushing for it to be given the go-ahead. Sources also say the Treasury has already accounted for billions of pounds’ worth of tax revenue from Rosebank and so would be faced with a shortfall should it be rejected. An important part of the story, I would agree. My wonderful friend Avi Shlaim at Oxford is excellent on that whole tragedy, having lived through it himself. He sees as The Arab Jews as the other great victims of Zionism. I strongly recommend his book, Memoir of an Arab Jew. youtu.be/SMJJiZlXOi0?si=9Sdw…

The @BoardofDeputies is a reactionary, Zionist organisation that has a history of backing down in the face of fascism, that stretches long before the Nakba. Dr.Jonathan Fluxman explains why younger Jews are turning their backs on it.

🔔Former BBC Panorama producer Phil Craig says the BBC’s Gaza coverage has shattered his faith in the broadcaster. His criticism raises serious questions about editorial judgement, accuracy & impartiality in reporting Israel’s war on Gaza. For Palestinians, this is not merely a media debate. How their suffering is reported shapes public understanding & accountability. The BBC’s reputation cannot replace scrutiny. Trust must be earned through journalism that holds power to account. jewishnews.co.uk/former-bbc-…
