One of my favorite Pittsburgh/Pirates traditions: the annual gathering at the Forbes Field wall in Oakland to listen to Game 7 of the 1960 World Series.

If you watched the Obama Presidential Center opening, the World Cup, and the Knicks parade yesterday afternoon - and nothing else - you could actually see the America we're supposed to be at age 250.
True story.

You are seeing in real time why Trump companies went bankrupt so many times. Set aside your politics. This guy is incapable of making a deal or meaningful decision and it follows the same cycle. Big flashy announcement (Epic Fury). Adversity hits (Hormuz closed). Defraud stakeholders (promise two week solution). Freeze up (endless two week cycle loop). Compound the problem (resource depletion). Final chance to save face rejected (what you’re seeing now). Bankruptcy strikes and blame others during chaos. Rinse repeat.
To say the @FulbrightPrgrm changed my life is an understatement. My dad was on a teacher exchange in Germany when I was born. Went on another Fulbright, to Germany where I attended Kindergarten, my first real step into international education. 1/ theguardian.com/us-news/2025…
The mass resignation of the Fulbright board over political interference is heartbreaking. Even if you support this administration, I can’t believe this is what you hoped for. 4/
Narrow-mindedness and isolationism threaten something that truly makes the world better. We need more global understanding, not less. #Fulbright #AcademicFreedom #GlobalEducation 5/
Thank you @EduroLearning & @mscofino for sharing this #coachbetter convo with @MsMteachesELLs & me on using a coaching mindset in co-teaching to support all learners. Grateful to @NISTSchool for backing our #EARCOS session. youtu.be/UaSnF8Hxrr8?feature…

New: Diplomats in Vietnam warned Washington that halting USAID's efforts to clean up the massive deposit of postwar pesticides would be a catastrophe for public health and relations with a key strategic partner in Asia. propub.li/43O10yM

RFA does amazing reporting in the most difficult conditions in this region - especially Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia. We rely on them a lot - this is a real blow to us, to transparency accountability in Asia, to keeping people informed about what’s really going on. Very sad.
🧵 (1/3) The federal grants that fund Radio Free Asia and partner networks were terminated Saturday morning, according to a grant termination notice received by RFA.

A refugee camp in #Thailand, on the border w #Myanmar, had a hospital and 2 medical practices, where doctors cared for 30,000 ppl.
Now all is closed, because #Trump has frozen aid funds. Only the beginning of the catastrophe.
The chain reaction will be unstoppable.
@PravitR

As someone who teaches in an international school with so many non native English speakers I love that you have "rediscovered" Farsi. This is different from the refugee journey of assimilation (forced / chosen / somewhere in between), language is nuanced and beautiful.
When I was five, a new refugee in Canada, my mom was obsessed with me perfecting English. She wanted me to fit in, to succeed. But with that, I lost my mother tongue from Afghanistan. My language turned into beautiful, wavy lines—illegible to me. I became illiterate.
Two years ago, during my undergrad at Columbia, I pushed myself to learn to read and write in Farsi again. Those once-indecipherable lines became a language. My god, I could read. I could write. I burst into tears after every class. I was five again, mourning.. again.
Now, I’m slowly reading philosophy and history in Farsi. It’s slow, but.. I’m reading.
This is just one of many journeys of a refugee. As you spend time with your families this Christmas Eve, hug them tight. Being a refugee means living many lives, many temporalities. To come home every holiday is a privilege.
Sitting on a train to another city, reading Farsi poetry, I think about this.
Happy Holidays @HellbenderBeer team. Saw this article and obviously thought of you all. Best to your family and friends!

#pubPDAsia Q1 - I think open and honest discussions about pros and cons of screen time. We are not going back to a non digital world, but we can utilize best practice which isn't all or nothing. Moderation. Teach responsible use.

Hard to see the letters I’m typing through the tears streaming down my face though.
