Devastating to wake up to this news. Many of you may have seen Abed speak at @JewishCurrents Live.
A good thing for all these newly-elected Dems to do is to call for Abed's release.
Netanyahu and Zini are escalating their efforts to steal the election. Last night, police and the Shin Bet abducted journalist Abd Abu Shahada from his home. The forces refused to present an arrest warrant, seized belongings without providing an inventory, and continue to withhold any information about his whereabouts.
Abd’s arrest is part of a broader campaign of arrests, interrogations and threats against political activists, designed to undermine the election results through the weaponization of the police and the Shin Bet. None of this will change one simple fact: Netanyahu lost the election, thanks to Arab citizens who turned out in massive numbers and kicked him out.
The state’s abduction of its own citizens is a grave crime. But we will not be intimidated, and we will not let them steal the election. The crimes committed by the police and the Shin Bet in Netanyahu’s service will not deter us from our just struggle to build a society and a state founded on freedom, justice and equality.

The people who load and unload cargo ships make up a class of workers with unusual power over foreign affairs and trade. Tomorrow—in 111 ports, across 22 countries—they’re going on strike for Palestine. motherjones.com/politics/202…

I’ve been covering this story for a big chunk of the summer/fall. With this feature, I wanted to focus on what it’s like for the vendors to experience this treatment
California decriminalized street vending. LAPD is still citing vendors in MacArthur Park.
Vendors say LAPD is using 41.18 to harass them. Now they’re part of a fight to repeal the anti-camping law entirely.

NEW: I tracked every single dollar AIPAC spent this cycle. While navigating backlash & publicly retreating from endorsing & funding campaigns, there are still few seats in Congress it hasn’t touched. AIPAC isn’t going away; it’ll just be harder to track 🧵theintercept.com/2026/10/29/…

NEW: On Friday, dockworkers at 111 ports in 22 countries and regions on five continents will stop work in a coordinated strike against war, according to the most recent information from the organizing unions.
More than 25 dockworkers’ unions have now signed on, from Marseille to Mumbai, Hamburg to Montevideo, Melbourne to Oakland. Days ago the count stood at about 100 ports in 17 countries, and that figure doesn’t include the dozens of unions in other sectors that have pledged support. Their demand is simple: no weapons and no military cargo through their ports. Nearly everything the world ships passes through the docks, and without the workers who load and unload it, nothing moves.
In France, the main dockers’ union says the country’s ports will be 95% shut. Italy, India, Greece and Turkey face 24-hour strikes, and Morocco and Cyprus will see stoppages of up to two hours, with rallies planned in port cities around the world. In Greece, metalworkers, ship-repair workers and young people are joining the dockers, and in the US, ILWU Local 10 is striking in Oakland and San Francisco. The unions are working from the Istanbul Declaration, signed in May, with each one deciding for itself how to take part. They are also fighting for their own jobs, against cuts from automation and for contracts, raises, shorter hours and safety.
The unions point to escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East and the danger of a generalized war. They condemn Israel’s new crimes in Hebron, carried out with the backing of the US, NATO and the EU. Israel’s lockdown of the city is now in its sixth day, with more than 3,000 Palestinians displaced, according to the UN. Palestinian unions have endorsed Friday’s action.
In Italy, the fight has spilled beyond the docks. The union USB has called for a nationwide general strike. Last night, the Italian government ordered transport workers back on the job last night. USB said it would defy the order and accept the steep penalties.
The unions are calling on workers and young people everywhere to stand with the dockworkers, saying “Ports for peace and the peoples, not launching pads for war.”
I’m reporting from Calabria, Italy, and I will be in Genoa tomorrow ahead of the strike to report on the ground during the mobilzation.

John Hering is joined by other tech titans — founders of Ring and Tinder+others — in spending more than $3 million backing John McKinney against the DSA-endorsed Marissa Roy who played a key role in the $17 billion Meta lawsuit this year. ✍🏽@theintercept

🧵Hot take on Israeli exit polls. Netanyahu's Likud apperas to have won the most seats, but with Zionist opposition parties having more seats when combined as compared to the current governing coalition parties.
Palestinian parties seemed to have gained an unprecedented 18 seats.
