Wiltshire Council propose to close St Nicholas & Larkrise schools & hide our children away in a ‘super’ school in the middle of nowhere! We say NO!

This is heartbreaking, concerning and very worrying to read about our most vulnerable children, and, sadly, this is happening all over the country. Something HAS to be done to help our special schools. 😢😢

As disabled children and families march throughout the country government statistics show that things are getting worse. The percentage of EHCPs completed within the 20 week MAXIMUM time limit has decreased by 5%. Only 60% completed within the legal limit. #SendNationalCrisis

Did you know that pupils with special educational needs/disabilities are six times more likely to be excluded from English state schools than pupils without SEND? This is why we are marching on Thursday 30th May. Please join the #SendNationalCrisis march. @SendCrisis

Children with special educational needs/disabilities are being failed, forced out of school, left without education or without suitable education, their legal rights undermined. This is why families are marching this Thursday 30th May. @SendCrisis #SendNationalCrisis

Replying to @CarrieGrant1
@CarrieGrant1 today @wiltscouncil cabinet voted to close 3, yes 3 amazing special needs schools in Wiltshire in favour of 1 so called super school! The most vulnerable children in our county won’t cope with this! We DO NOT want the largest SEN school in the country!!

Bigger isn't better when dealing with individual complex needs. The plan to take away the existing schools is uncaring and distressing not only for the children but their parents as well. Why won't authorities listen?!

The last thing a child with SEND needs is to be sat on a minibus for more than an hour at the beginning and end of the day. This proposal is ill conceived and potentially harmful for some of the most vulnerable in society. If WCC want new schools they should be around the county!

Council meeting is hearing speeches from parents who are immensely passionate & at times tearful. Two themes... 1: how every parent of a child with SEND consistently feels they need to fight to get their needs met. 2: the sheer range of needs is immense, how can they all be met?

With #Chippenham set to grow with around 2500 new homes, @st_nics is ideally placed to take up the additional capacilty of pupils that could reasonably be expected with such housing expansion. #keepspecialschoolslocal #togetherwearestronger @keep_sen @CdThis @Hope4lHelen

Having just finished my speech to cabinet, Cllr Scott claimed that spending on young people has increased. Whilst this is 'possibly' true, it hides the fact that staffing ratios have been rigourously compromised and resources have become increasingly targetted.

@keep_sen @laura4roundway it would be a Legacy to deliver a proposal that isn’t at odd with human right Article 2 Public authorities should also consider your right to life when making decisions that might put you in danger or that affect your life expectancy. Or discriminatory
Baroness Jane Scott announced her Resignation at the Full Council Meeting this morning, her last day as Council Lead on 9th July. Wouldn’t it be a lasting Legacy if she turned the tables tomorrow in Cabinet and actually LISTENED to those who matter....

It's not about what @wiltscouncil want!!!! It's about what our children, and future SEND children NEED and DESERVE, and that is to be educated in the heart of their own communities!!!!
Tomorrow Cabinet decides on the future of Special Schools in N. Wiltshire. The council recommends (yet AGAIN) building one mega school in a v rural location for 400(!!) SEND CYP! It's an ethically and morally wrong proposal...this can not happen! #inclusion #Equality @keep_sen
