The Conservative Government wants private multinationals running transit across Ontario. We say Keep Transit Public. (A campaign by @atu_canada.)

In 2022, @AndreaHorwath, @CraigCassar and Esther Pauls committed to keeping LRT Operations with HSR on @ATU107's Election Survey. Today they all broke that commitment and trust with ATU and organized labour. Their votes made the difference in contracting out ATU jobs.

It appears that the HDLC adopted boycott of a private operator for Hamilton LRT will be in effect for a decade. Councillors and the Mayor contracted out @ATU107 jobs to an unknown operator. Shameful display of wayward trusteeship over tax dollars! #HSRnotLRT @keeptransitpub

Taxpayers in #HamOnt will be paying the operator of the LRT. The City of Hamilton has the @hsr that has operated busses and light rail in the city for over 125 years and who the public wants to operate LRT. Today, Hamilton Council decided to pay an unknown corporation to do it.

Grateful for my MP and MPP. They make some excellent points about ensuring LRT is built inclusively so that it benefits all Hamiltonians. Today's decision about whether or not the City runs LRT will have a huge influence on its future success. #HamOnt thespec.com/opinion/contribu…

Thank you Declan Withers - a McMaster student - for coming out to delegate. Declan asks many questions of city council; mainly, how will they protect students from the financial burden if third party operator does not provide discounted fares for students like HSR does now?

THANK YOU Tracey Languille president of @cupw local 548. "Postal workers support and agree with public transit... Hamilton is built on labour and by labour." She urges council to be ambitious and support model 4 where HSR and ATU 107 run the LRT.

T.H. Ponders's second delegation in Hamilton both in support of #KeepTransitPublic. He says it would be cowardly for city council to give up local insight, accountability and control to a private third party.

Thank you James Kemp for coming out to delegate again and reiterating to council how a private third party in operations will add another layer of complexity in getting accessible transit. Does anyone from Hamilton even sit on the Metrolinx accessible advisory committee?

YES BRIAN! @ATUlocal113 member Brian Conolly clears up some confusion about Ottawa LRT. Their problems do not have to do with the public operations. Public service OC Transpo was the saving grace in Ottawa when MAINTENANCE failures occurred.

Hamilton ACORN endorses #keeptransitpublic Profit should not be a part of public services, it prioritizes profit over people! No elected officials in a private company. Municipal oversight is crucial! Fair compensation means better services #organizedlabour

Thank you to those who understand and advocate for keeping transit public, as we know this creates more opportunities and reduces barriers for community members. It is so crucial toward making our city a healthier and more equitable community. 🙏🏿🙏🏻🙏🏾🙏🏿🙏🏼🙏🏿
Today we held a press conference where local leaders spoke on city council's upcoming decision regarding LRT operations. We said it in 2014, we said it in 2017, and we're saying it again: we need to keep transit public in this city.

Not being able to move around the City creates barriers and reinforces inequality. Public transit options create more inclusion, and more accountability for community. Thanks to these folks for continuing the fight to make sure LRT is fully public.
