Hi again. It is your loyal Bart Basel 2022 photographer. Here are a few of my favorites!
First is by far the best costume in attendance, a real life clipper card!

I would like us to stop pretending like legislation needs “60 votes to pass”. Every single time this issue comes up, journalists should point out that the legislation only requires 50 votes to pass, but that some senators would rather filibuster it and stall all operations.

This is such a good piece of explanatory journalism on a question that has been nagging me and I’ve seen answered nowhere else:

It’s time to remove the remaining Central Freeway, south of Market Street. Its removal would be a huge benefit to San Francisco.
That’s why I just sent @CaltransHQ a letter asking it to evaluate the cost & logistics of tearing this remnant freeway down.⬇️ drive.google.com/file/d/1qDB…

The SFMTA response to the Burrito Plan unfortunately reads like a bunch of excuses
The Valencia Burrito Plan (@burritojustice) was just analyzed by @SFMTA_Muni. They say it isn't feasible because it violates the SFFD's arbitrary 26' clearance rule. And it would take 3 - 5 years to implement. To which I say: do you know how many years we've been waiting?!
Not sure why we have planning commissioners who talk disparagingly about one of our newest SF residential neighborhoods

Sue Diamond: "We are a city where every resident values the small neighborhood they live in. . . I think we should avoid doing anything that recreates Mission Bay on the west side."

San Francisco has spent 50 years enacting anti-housing policies — generating a debilitating housing crisis.
Certain Supervisors are now pointing fingers at the state, saying we’re not doing enough for affordable housing policy & funding.
That accusation is simply false: 🧵

Preston is criticizing Scott Wiener saying advocates asked, "Why don't you just do a streamlining bill for affordable housing?" That wouldn't pass. Real estate interests have captured Sacramento and their goal (and Wiener's goal) is "to deregulate market-rate housing."

Yesterday's big Board of Supervisors hearing on the housing element was supposed to provide clarity.
Instead, it was a farce. YIMBY members are furious. We are not going to accept a housing element which blatantly lies to the state.

TLDR: The Planning Dept says the housing element is fine. The Board of Supervisors says the plan is compliant. Big questions go unanswered:
• Why is the city refusing to apply feedback from @California_HCD?
• What proof does Planning have that the policy changes will work?
Thank you @mattdorsey!! It's refreshing to have a member of the BOS not shy away from addressing our housing crisis.

Oh wow. Dorsey says he's going to introduce legislation to remove some of the constraints identified in the housing element, and to create Housing Sustainability Districts like the housing element specifies!

My latest column: San Francisco voters are angry, but they didn’t vote Tuesday in a “burn it all down” kind of way. They backed moderate candidates, but approved car-free streets and spending on transit, schools and libraries. Voters want a city that works.sfchronicle.com/sf/bayarea/h…

Final pitch: My city supervisor campaign offers a new direction for San Francisco.
We held my opponent accountable on the issues. When he couldn’t defend his record, he went low with outlandish attacks.
But we went high with a vision to create our best San Francisco. Join us.

An investigator has been assigned to the ethics complaints filed against Supervisor @conniechansf. It's illegal to campaign on City letterhead.

Really bonkers that the Prop E TALKING POINT is ‘let’s make sure the BoS can still vote on affordable housing’.
Prop E maintains the status quo so that BoS can keep voting to block housing and NIMBYs can keep suing to kill housing.
