Thank You Shri #UddhavThackeray ji for your leadership 🙏🏼 You always took the decisions which were good for our environment, forests and wildlife. Your loss is the loss for #Maharashtra’s forests and wildlife. @CMOMaharashtra @OfficeofUT @AUThackeray

Not a single day passes without heartbreaking news of our green cover being destroyed. 🌳💔 Forests that took generations to grow are disappearing in the name of development. How much more of nature must we lose before we realise that there can be no future without forests? 🌍🌿

Maharashtra is battling droughts, heatwaves, and the devastating effects of climate change — yet we continue to destroy the very forests that help protect us. 💔🌳 How can we fight climate change while destroying nature? This is heartbreaking. @AUThackeray @CMOMaharashtra

We destroy forests that took generations to grow, displace countless living beings, and dare to call it development. The arrogance of believing this planet exists for human convenience is frightening. 🌍💔 #SaveOurForests #SaveWildlife @AUThackeray @CMOMaharashtra

Mumbai's Thane Coastal Road-2 will go ahead on its original route through the buffer zone of the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary, affecting 3,754 mangroves, after the state’s coastal zone authority dropped its demand for a realignment. Of the 3,754 trees, 680 spread over 1.7 hectares will be lost for good, because they stand where the elevated road’s piers will be built. Read more: indianexpress.com/article/ci…

This is heartbreaking! As a mother I cannot fathom this grief… Trees need a strong base, a margin, which is free from concrete, cement and microplastics so the roots aren’t choked and hold the weight strongly. Trees need to be pruned correctly; their branches act like limbs that balance the tree, help it withstand the torrential rains. Have seen so many trees pruned till just a vertical stump remains… The fact that this can happen to anyone is chilling. He was just a lil boy going to school 💔

Trees don't die overnight. They die inch by inch under concrete. Across Mumbai, tree bases are being covered with concrete in the name of development. This blocks rainwater from reaching the roots, cuts off oxygen,& slowly weakens the tree and it collapses. 😢🌳 – at Mumbai, India
Amidst the ongoing rains across parts of the city, a roadside peepal tree uprooted and crashed onto a school van of Universal High School, Chembur, trapping a student inside on Tuesday afternoon. The incident was reported to the Mumbai Fire Brigade on Road No. 11 in Chembur. Fire brigade personnel, police, a 108 ambulance and BMC ward staff rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The student was safely rescued from the bus. The cause of the tree collapse is yet to be ascertained.

India has lost over 2.3 million hectares of tree cover since 2000, yet we keep talking about GDP, expressways and smart cities as if forests are optional. Forests are not a luxury. They are the source of clean air, water, biodiversity and a livable climate. A country that cuts down its forests faster than it restores them is borrowing from future generations to pay for today’s development.
