📢New Publication! Out in Perspectives on Politics
Reassessing the Impact of Local Control: When Smaller Local Governments Permit More Housing
Coauthored w/@mvinaes
👉doi.org/10.1017/S15375927250…
We study municipal reform in Denmark:
🏘️ What happens to housing supply? ⤵️ (1/2)
✨ Smaller local govts actually permit more housing
✨ Consolidated municipalities = fewer permits, less construction
Why?? Stronger fiscal incentives + closer accountability in smaller jurisdictions
💥 Upshot: Local control isn’t always the enemy of housing growth. (2/2)

Nimbyism is often explained through property values or exclusion. But in recent work with @NNyholt, we explore a different perspective—local preservationism. It’s less about keeping people out and more about preserving neighborhood character. Read more: osf.io/preprints/osf/n2cme

Excited that my study on homelessness governance during Covid-19 is now online at @UrbanAffairsRev 🥳 Link to article: doi.org/10.1177/107808742412…
People experiencing homelessness are especially vulnerable to public health emergencies. Still, we know little about how local govts managed this crisis. I introduce a new nat’l dataset on local responses and show that lack of fed guidance led to spatially uneven policy outcomes.
The @UrbanAffairsRev also invited me to contribute a short blog post summarizing the main take-aways, you can check it out here: urbanaffairsreview.com/uar-a…
Just received a special delivery 📚 - very happy I got to contribute with an entry on social policy together with @ProfausBerlin
