As I talk with church planters & planting leaders I'm more convinced that the church in U.S. will continue to decline in numbers & influence if we don't embrace a Bivo/Covo strategy (strategy not model) that involves rethinking vocation, mission, APEST & the nature of the church.

We need conversations, not echo chambers. Go into your neighborhood. Grab a brew. Sit at a table. And listen for an hour.

When “gentle and lowly” is elevated beyond “clear and courageous” we celebrate half of the grace and Truth so loud in Jesus’ life. And half a Jesus is no Jesus at all.
And yes…the opposite is true.
Whenever we elevate what we like over what He is we will end up with something we won’t like for long.
Preach the whole counsel of God.
Love the whole revelation of God.
Grace and Truth are not 50/50.
They are 100/100.

What if the gospel is less about how to get into the kingdom of heaven after you die, and more about how to live in the kingdom of heaven before you die? How do we tell that story to a world that thinks Christianity has been tried and failed?

I've watched it a hundred times.
A family starts attending a missional church and immediately loves it's simplicity, shared-life in community, and presence in the neighborhood.
BUT they haven't dealt w/ their Consumerism yet. There's a detox process they need to undergo.

How do church leaders operate in a rapidly increasing missionary context?
1. Correctly Assess Reality (in & outside the church)
2. Cultivate a Missionary Culture (stories & scorecards)
3. Activate ALL the People of God (diminish clergy-laity & sacred-secular divide, APEST)

You cannot fix what is broken in American Christianity—don't even try. Instead pour your mental, emotional, and physical energy into building a more beautiful expression right where you are.

Jesus called his disciples the “salt of the earth”
Salt PRESERVES what is good and fresh
Salt ARRESTS the process of decay and death
our fear & scarcity mentality leads us to preserve what is decaying, and arrest what is good and fresh.
Stay salty today, my friends

I think an abundance mindset always gets you a lot further than a scarcity mindset.
