.@JamesTalarico: The kind of religion that says you can treat people however you want as long as you have a personal relationship with Jesus is an abomination.
Scripture says you can't love God and hate other people.
You can't love God and abuse the immigrant.
You can't love God and bully the outcast.
You can't love God and oppress the poor.
We spend so much time looking for God out there, that we miss God in the person sitting right next to us.

In a past life, I was a reporter in Putin's Russia.
During that time, a leading Russian opposition journalist told me he feared interactions with law enforcement because a police officer could easily plant drugs on him to fabricate a criminal case.
A few years later, a totally apolitical acquaintance was arrested for participating in an unsanctioned protest. Only he hadn't been protesting; he had been sitting on a park bench. Four police officers grabbed him — one holding each arm, one holding each leg — and carried him away. After two days in jail, he was convicted of the same charges as many other protesters: blocking traffic and chanting anti-government slogans. He was lucky to get off with a fine.
These are two "small" examples of life in a police state. Notably, neither involves lethal force.
And that wasn't Russia at its worst. Since then, the Kremlin has de facto outlawed dissent.
So if you think it's desirable for Americans to be "terrified" of law enforcement, if you believe lethal force is a justified response to any disobedience (legal precedent states otherwise), you don't know what you're asking for.

J.D. Vance is in #Montana. He’s not eating breakfast at a local diner. He’s not visiting the children’s wing of one of our hospitals or sharing a meal with our servicemen and women.
He landed in Bozeman and, in a motorcade including our taxpayer-funded EMS vehicles, made his way to the gates of the #YellowstoneClub, a playground for billionaires much like Epstein Island.
Why won’t he engage with the folks who voted for him here? He’s an oligarch. The common man is simply a pitiable tool to him.
He’ll be spending Christmas with Mark Zuckerberg, not his voting base, in a billionaire’s mansion. Montana deserves better and we’ll get it.

How Japanese have produced wood for 700 years, without cutting down trees.
Daisugi is an ancient Japanese forestry technique developed in the 14th century originally used by people living in the Kitayama region, because the territory was extremely poor in saplings.
They planted cedars pruned in a special way to produce shoots that eventually would become perfect, straight, knot-free lumbers.
The shoots are gently pruned by hand every two years leaving only the top boughs, allowing them to grow straight. Harvesting takes 20 years and old 'tree stock' can grow up to a hundred shoots at a time.
There was actually another reason why the technique was developed: fashion. In the 14th century, a linear, stylized form of architecture known as sukiya-zukuri (数寄屋造り) became popular, and every prominent samurai or nobleman wanted a house built in this way.
There were simply not enough raw materials available to keep up with demand, so daisugi was developed to produce more wood in a shorter time.
The wood produced with this technique has also impressive qualities: it's 140% more flexible than standard cedar and 200% denser and stronger. And, it's extremely durable.
