Someone aged 35 earning £13,036 from employment would pay income tax on the amount above £12,570.
Someone aged 70 receiving £13,036 entirely through the state pension would, under the proposed arrangement, pay nothing.
This doesn’t seem fair.

The chancellor will use his budget this week to protect pensioners and those saving for their retirement as he announces plans to shield nearly one million people from paying income tax
John Healey is expected to confirm on Wednesday that the full state pension will rise by £489 to £13,036 - equivalent to 3.9%
However, the rise will push about one million people on low incomes who rely on the state pension above the £12,570 personal allowance threshold, meaning they would be dragged into paying income tax
To retain the principle that the state pension is not taxable, Healey is expected to announce a rise in the tax-free allowance for low-income pensioners to £13,036. The move will cost taxpayers £200m a year by 2030
It will rise in line with increases in the state pension over the course of this parliament. However, millions of pensioners with higher incomes - such as those who have private pensions - will still pay income tax
The Times has also been told that the chancellor has decided not to reduce the tax-free pension lump sum. Pension savers can take 25 per cent of their pension tax-free from the age of 55 up to a maximum of £268,275
There were suggestions that Healey could reduce the tax-free amount to £100,000, but he has chosen to retain the current level
The moves to protect pensioners and those saving for their retirement come after Andy Burnham announced plans to end the pensions triple lock - under which the state pension rises in line with inflation, wages or 2.5 per cent - in 2030 to help fund social care

Reeks of entitlement this from the cartel clubs.
The big clubs have always felt entitled to pick off the staff of “lesser” clubs, Fergie even had a policy of it
Started way back even with United signing Dwight Yorke

This is exactly the kind of entitlement that fuels the perception of a cartel in football. A manager succeeds at a so called “lesser” club, and the conversation immediately shifts to which traditional giant should take him away.
Then people wonder why there’s a sense that ambitious clubs outside the established elite are kept at arm’s length. The assumption is always that the bigger name deserves the best of what the others build.

My friend just raised money for his new startup
€80k round
I was the lead investor (I put in €2.4k)
He's already deployed most of the funds, hiring 2 marketers, 3 engineers, and 17 compliance people
Has enough runway for about 18 months to fund payroll for this small, scrappy team
They are currently pre-product and pre-revenue
I urged him to hire another compliance officer instead of the 2nd marketer, but otherwise I'm happy with his decisions so far
Love seeing young founders build promising teams here in the EU

Have we broken any rules? have we hidden anything away off the books? have we been totally transparent? Have we been sanctioned by the EPL? Shamchester City are cheats, won’t nowt, bought everything 👍
I'm not going too far when I say this is something you could reasonably imagine Oliver Cromwell introducing.

Heads up, @OpenAI and @AnthropicAI. Rumor reaches my ears that you're doing a stupid thing, and should stop before you damage yourselves.
I hear you've now nerfed your models so that when people try to use them to clean the spamware and spyware out of their televisions, you block that.
If you really want Chinese open-weight models and open-source projects like OpenWaldo to eat your lunch, crippling your models so that people paying expensive subscriptions can't use them for completely legitimate purposes is a great way to accomplish this.
If, on the other hand, you'd rather have a volume business, maybe stupid arbitrary restrictions that look like they have the sole purpose of protecting corporate sleazeballs aren't such a good idea.
A word to the wise should be sufficient.
Through 2023–24, real median income had risen about 17% for retired households since 2007–08, against 5% for non-retired households.
Britain has made work the poor relation.

No. The scariest thing here is what HMRC considers wealthy.
£200k/pa
OR
£2M in ASSETS
And apparently, out of a population of £68ish million inhabitants, there are only 850,000 of these 'wealthy'.
We are so irredeemably fucked.

🗣Souness: "Its cruel on #ManCity. This is because of FFP, set up by the big clubs to protect big clubs. They've said, 'We are the big guys, we generate the most, let's set up a rule that prevents City buying the best players and we're not the big boys anymore.' Its jealousy" 👏

While I appreciate a £200k salary is rare in Britain
Calling managers in banks & tech companies on PAYE “wealthy” and pulling them in for a face to face is absolutely wild

For those of you who thought the visit from a Bedford Borough Council official to investigate our daughter Zoe’s (age 12) pretend teddy bear cafe was too ridiculous to be real, here is the arrival of official. This is totally legit. She really did show up at our property to investigate the illegal teddy bears having their coffee🧸🧸☕️☕️
