Announcing: Sydney – We Need to Talk! Volume 2, a new book of short essays about Sydney from the Sydney Urban Crew. So great to finally have this out in the world, in a short run hard copy and free online.
Re-posting this one in the wake of this week's news that YIMBY Melbourne have secured a AUS$760,000 grant from Open Philanthropy, a philanthropic trust with close connections to US tech folks

Had a great time talking about wires on the wireless with @rgloveroz! Got into great story of how telco wires ended up under Sydney's footpaths, and 120+ years of beef between councils, telco providers and unions about wiring work. abc.net.au/listen/programs/s…
Have really loved the experience of doing some Self-Improvement Wednesdays with @rgloveroz over the past few years ... all the best for post-radio life Richard!!

New McCarthyism at Usyd: Not only are Sydney Uni’s new speech restrictions ridiculously unworkable, much more disturbingly they give broad managerial discretion to classify teaching and speech as misconduct, eroding academic freedom and the uni’s very foundations. @NTEUnion
I am extremely here for this thread breaking down the relationship between Tokyo's fashion scene and its urban planning. Menswear guy is also honorary geography guy.

The perverse corporate priorities of an unaccountable and obscenely remunerated senior executive class is eroding our great public unis and driving uni staff job cuts. A public inquiry is urgently needed. @NTEUnion theguardian.com/australia-ne…

Hong Kong journalist-turned-activist Gwyneth Ho (何桂藍), who pleaded not guilty and didn’t submit any mitigation statement (the only one, if I’m not wrong) in the Hong Kong 47 case, was sentenced to 7 years in prison today. She posted this long article on Facebook (facebook.com/share/p/19PrUeo…?) today.
Gwyneth is a true heroine.

Loving @RTBUnion industrial action in Sydney: “Our call for 24-hour transport has the benefit of being a pain for management and the government, while also resulting in improved services for commuters.”

This is spot on. The last panel especially lays bare the gutlessness that underpins this government's tough talk on kids' use of social media.
