Ed Miliband’s first FCDO Oral Questions as FSec, and @SarahChampionMP picked up where she left off, pushing him to keep to the commitment of embedding women’s rights across FCDO. His answer: “100% yes.”
Thank you Sarah for knowing how urgent this is, and never letting it drop 🙏
A 10/10 Wednesday spent among some legendary women and women MPs! Thank you @CentenaryAction @NEF @HelenPankhurst ✨

Parliament matters. And the people in it matter. 🏛️
On Intl Day of Parliamentarism, @careintuk celebrates the incredible UK parliamentarians speaking up for gender equality in foreign policy — in debates, in committees, and on the global stage.

@CommonsIDC report on WPS highlights risks to progress.
As conflicts increase and ODA cuts bite, it’s time for gov’t to act - prioritising in practice, not just rhetoric.
Peace agreements are 64% less likely to fail when women meaningfully participate, yet in 2023 women made up only 9.6% of negotiators.
The Government must do more to aid change, and deliver on its obligations to the Women, Peace and Security agenda ⬇️

40% cuts to our foreign aid will have a dramatic impact internationally; both to the poorest & to the UK international standing and influence. Today it felt like Ministers were trying to buy the consequences @CommonsIDC @LabourCID @bondngo independent.co.uk/voices/uk-…

The UK’s foreign policy must prioritise ending violence against women and girls worldwide say @AlexBallingerMP and @SarahChampionMP labourlist.org/2025/12/globa…
As #16DaysOfActivism closes and we mark #HumanRightsDay, one message stands out: defending rights, safety and opportunity for women and girls strengthens every society.
Against global rollback, hard-won progress on gender equality must be defended. #ProtectProgress
@careintuk
Women’s rights face rollback globally, a spiralling debt crisis is adding pressure. #UKAid must be part of a joined-up response — and we need to tell that story better, as @AnnelieseDodds convincingly argues.

“Prime minister Keir Starmer’s recent announcement of an increase in defence spending must not come at the cost of women and girls’ rights.” - this part! @SarahChampionMP we couldn’t agree more.

📢 @careintuk joins over 60 orgs to demand that the UK gov’t reverse the shameful funding cuts that will deliver the worst aid budget for women and girls on record.

The U.K. government’s proposal to scrap education and gender-equality aid budgets will deprive lower-income countries of essential funding for girls’ schooling, maternal health and preventing violence against women. @FCDOGovUK: this rollback would erase years of hard-won progress on girls’ rights.
At the @CommonsIDC: “Our intention is to increase [the development budget] over time”.
In the media: “0.3% GNI spend is the new normal”.
