Besides lokasaṅgraha, the Bhagavadgītā, by calling those who accomplish yajña as "kṣapita-kalmaṣāḥ"/"they whose impurities are destroyed" (4:30 tinyurl.com/BhG430), gives another purpose of yajña so to speak, commonly called citta-śuddhi in Śāṅkara Vedānta. 1/

Though தெய்வம்/teyvam means 'deity' in Tamiḻ now, does Tiruvaḷḷuvar use it like the Saṃskṛtam word (e.g. BG 18:14 bit.ly/2HEoQ8y), in the broad sense of "more-than-human indispensables in human action", in kuṟaḷ 619 on āḷviṉai/puruṣārtha?ytamizh.com/thirukural/kural…

With this particular speaker, one can't tell right away if it's just a number that occurred to him even as he spoke, or it is a reference to some obscure tantra text. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I would probably have reacted more mockingly had I read this some years earlier, but now my reaction is along these lines: "With all the fantasizing people do anyway, there seems little to lose and quite a bit to gain in this sort of benign visualization." economictimes.indiatimes.com…

Here is some newspaper coverage of recent additions to the epigraphic corpus on public water-works in Tamiḻakam from the 15-17th centuries CE (which seems to fall within the period of Vijayanagara rule, though the article makes no mention of this). timesofindia.indiatimes.com/….

Ṛgveda 01.164.43 can be heard in this recitation of Ṛgveda 01.164.41-46, where the commonly (mis?)quoted "ekam sat viprāḥ bahudhā vadanti" also appears in its original context. aurobindo.ru/workings/mather… facebook.com/sankaratv/video… (Watch from 56:20 to 58:08)

Semi-related: When the pictured product was passed around at a family gathering, an uncle of mine remarked how millets and palm-sugar were once affordable alternatives, from which their traditional users are being priced out due to an ongoing hipster takeover.

Of course, dhātu-s & pratyaya-s (eg. gsnu)are only part of the grammatical metalanguage not meant to be spoken at large, not the natural language supposedly more free of articulatory torments. However, grammar teachers would have had to speak it, and I wondered how they coped.2/2

In fact, it was in part your earlier question below that prompted mine above. When the instructor in the video uttered the name of the pratyaya, my reaction was "What did he just say?!😳" before he went on to write ग्स्नु on the board. Imagine the plight of pre-board pupils! 1/2

For historical/geographical reasons अवैष्णव may just connect better in this context in the Hindi-speaking parts. xitter.cf/longhandnotes/status/1…
Aside: Vegetarian food is called "Śaiva food" in the Tamiḻ-speaking parts, and "Vaiṣṇava food" in other parts of India. A hot-take I've heard is that these labels came from which sect brought Jaina-s (and their vegetarianism) large-scale into its fold in a given region!

Our notions of what's intuitive are confounded by early (premature?) school-day exposure to notions like "energy" acquired in a "word-thinking" way. It's hard to imagine what we would have found intuitive by ourselves, in the absence of such exposure. xitter.cf/longhandnotes/status/1… 1/

Sanskrit query: Svāmī Śāntacittānanda cited Rāmakṛṣṇa Paramahaṃsa saying "শুদ্ধ মন শুদ্ধ বুদ্ধি শুদ্ধ আত্মা এক!" ("Pure mind, pure intellect and pure Self are one."). Can we use a "plural one" as in "शुद्धं मनः, शुद्धा बुद्धिः, शुद्ध आत्मा, एके!"? Or better say समाः/अभिन्नाः?

The sheer variety of issues (from kindergarten to inheritance law) necessarily makes my answer issue-based. The distinct idealization(s) held up by trads, even if caricatured-seeming, may serve the purpose "overestimating man" does in Frankl's scheme. ted.com/talks/viktor_frankl_….

To clarify (not for @antasthaH😅), bringing up a confound doesn't imply denial of an effect. It's just that an effect maybe more readily shown for those of us without high baseline virtue*, if only pravṛtti is steadied! *eg.With such follies when younger xitter.cf/longhandnotes/status/1…
+Articulateness in English is necessary proof of learning. +Reading classical texts in translation can suffice to "get the meaning". +Mechanical practice by repetition can't contribute to "real understanding". +Verbal forewarning about temptation suffices to protect from it.

Those crossovers happen more and more as things start to get personal, which is everytime (since "The political is personal." after all, at least in this Talebian sense: xitter.cf/TalebWisdom/status/140…).

Those of us who at different times have been part of ostensibly mutually opposed political/religious groupings maybe familiar with how we may find ourselves preferring the company of those are on the "other side" for the "right reasons" than "our side" for the "wrong reasons".
