What is the point of a politician — let alone a literal vice president — who says he understood all of this and yet did absolutely nothing about it
One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was "composition"—whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up. So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we're going to shock the world? "No," he told me. "We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us." Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026. There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true. But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone. Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team. The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were: 1) End the war 2) Focus on cost of living/inflation 3) Put America First 4) Change our relationship to Israel Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.) In the next few months, there's going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I'm open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you. The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night. If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest. But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there. I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, “I told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.

Guys, we need to have an honest conversation about DEI. And some fellow conservatives aren’t going to like this. My son attends @ERAU_Daytona, arguably the top flight school in the world. He earned a 4.0 GPA last semester and just scored a 97 on his commercial pilot exam. He’s 6’3”, confident, and has sailed with me through ocean storms so violent I probably should have been arrested for bringing him aboard. We’ve hiked deep into the wilderness for days with nothing but backpacks. I don’t say this to brag. I say it because the kid is a rock star. He’s exactly the kind of young man you’d want to see at the end of the jetway. Now let’s talk about the tragic Learjet crash that killed nine people. The captain was Jeff Gregory, 55, a white man with decades of experience and the gray hair and seasoned appearance that inspire confidence. His copilot was Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, a 20-year-old woman. And immediately people started screaming DEI. That makes my blood boil. I’m DEAD set against DEI quotas. I believe cockpit seats should be earned through competence, judgment, and merit. Not race or gender. But if you look at a female pilot and automatically assume she’s a DEI hire, YOU ARE DOING EXACTLY WHAT YOU CLAIM TO OPPOSE. Consider this: My son is 20. She was 20. My son has hundreds of flight hours. She reportedly had over 1,300. My son is working on his commercial certificate. She earned hers as a teenager. My son flies single-engine piston aircraft. She was flying a JET the military uses. Put it in baseball terms: My son is the college phenom with every Major League scout in the stands, watching his every move and predicting a brilliant future. But she? At the same age, she was already batting cleanup for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the New York Yankees’ Triple-A team. A the same age, she was operating at an entirely different level of professional aviation. Was she a great pilot? YES. You don’t move up that fast if you suck. The testing is just too hard. Bringing DEI into this is just wrong. YES there are DEI pilots. YES some airlines have pushed mediocre women too fast and too far. But Nathalia wasn’t one of them. I’ve discussed this extensively with @JavonPrice. I’m a proud dues-paying member of the Organization of Black Maritime Graduates. What I love about them is they don’t give a damn about your skin color when it comes to joining or getting a scholarship. They want outstanding mariners. Yet whenever I promote an exceptional Black graduate, someone inevitably says: “We don’t need another DEI hire.” Or, “Don’t tell me to hire him because he’s Black.” I’M NOT. I’m telling you to hire him because he’s a damn good mariner. Here’s what conservatives need to understand: You cannot demand a meritocracy while refusing to recognize merit because liberals have rigged the game. You cannot condemn identity politics and then judge someone by their identity. You have to be color blind but also make absolutely certain you give everyone a fair assessment and don’t swing the other way. And if your first thought when you see a woman or minority is “DEI hire,” that does NOT make you racist. DEI has created legitimate concerns about merit. But it DOES mean you have a bias and it’s YOUR responsibility to recognize it, challenge it, and judge the individual on merit. Do not compensate by giving the person extra points on their job interview but 💯 DO spend a little more time digging into their resume to see if they are a rockstar. As a ship captain, I don’t care whether the officer standing watch beside me is Black, white, male, or female. I care whether they can do the damn job. ONE STANDARD. FOR EVERYONE. Nine people died in that crash. Their families deserve answers, not political accusations. The ocean doesn’t care who you are. Gravity doesn’t care who you voted for. If we’re going to fight for meritocracy, we’d damn well better defend merit wherever we find it.
Writing this in my personal capacity, but I have been flying these types of aircraft for more than 20 years, with over 8,000 hours, and have reasonable familiarity with how the charter world operates. I feel compelled to post after seeing commentary about the Lear 60 crash, from missile strikes to DEI to critiquing this poor woman’s final radio calls. That last part is what I find most troubling. She was the second-in-command (SIC), and while she was empowered to point out mistakes as part of good crew resource management, she was doing her job, communicating with ATC right to the end in a terrifying situation. She likely knew before many of those calls that she was going to die. I have heard final calls from friends, from military pilots with thousands of hours in fighter aircraft, and they are just as heartbreaking because they know the end is approaching. I understand the public interest given the footage and audio. But you do not know the aircraft’s maintenance history, whether there was a structural failure, if any failure was induced by turbulence, overspeed, or overcontrol, or everything happening in that cockpit. I am sure weather will be part of the investigation, but beyond that, it is speculation. The charter industry routinely hires commercial pilots very early in their careers to gain experience alongside an ATP-qualified captain before they move up to the airlines. She would still have the appropriate training, qualifications, and checkouts by an FAA examiner or designee. Let people investigate, learn, and share the facts. Be respectful to those who perished and the families who carry their memories. God bless them and their loved ones.

Too many in the West don't understand the *actual* root cause of this war: Russia fundamentally believes it is their God given right to rule over Eastern Europe & its people. It's not that complicated.
🚨 Putin plans to use Ukraine peace talks to push NATO back to its 1997 military posture According to The Telegraph, the Kremlin wants to force NATO to scale back its military presence in Europe to levels seen before Eastern European countries joined the Alliance. This could mean demanding the withdrawal of NATO forces from Poland, the Baltic states, and Finland. That is why Moscow is pushing for European countries to participate in negotiations over Ukraine. Diplomatic sources cited by The Telegraph say Putin wants to turn talks about ending the war into negotiations over the entire European security architecture. The issue may also have been discussed during Putin's three-hour meeting with Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in St. Petersburg. However, European countries have previously rejected the Kremlin's demands to reduce NATO's military presence on its eastern flank.
