This year, UNH's polling outfit perfectly modeled competitive races in Maine and New Hampshire with similarly accurate results in safe Connecticut and Rhode Island races.
If there's any justice they'll be treated as the gold standard pollster for New England from now on

Never question the University of New Hampshire's ability to poll Maine ever again
Wouldn't endorse Dunlap but immediately congratulated LePage. Jared Golden, always a team player
Four times, the people of Maine鈥檚 2nd District chose me to represent them in Congress. I know what an incredible honor it is to earn their trust. For their faith, I will always be thankful.
I also know a thing or two about winning in tough circumstances. So, I know you have to tip your hat to Paul LePage for winning in the midst of this Blue Tsunami. I stand ready to work with him to ensure the smooth transition that Mainers deserve.

BREAKING: Democrat Matt Dunlap concedes ME-2 to Paul LePage shortly after it went to ranked-choice voting, saying he does not think it will change the outcome.
Since you're all suddenly experts on the Second District, I'd love to hear how you think Baldacci would have won more votes in rural areas without Dunlap's sportsman bona fides and without defections from progressives over his active support for Israel

The towns around Lewiston - Greene, Sabattus, Wales, Turner - are the reddest in the state. These towns are well-populated by rural Maine standards, and LePage being able to run even with Collins there probably netted him 1k or more votes
Dunlap actually got what he needed in most places:
Bangor +30, Jackson +16
Augusta +18, +6.5
Skowhegan -4, -17.5
Presque Isle -2, -16.5
LePage won by managing to prevent any splitting in Andro. County, where he enjoys a home field advantage with conservative Franco voters

Susan Collins will end up having only a point or two more than Trump.
She's also the only thing standing in the way of the Maine GOP's annihilation, which has lost at least three Maine Sen. seats and up to a dozen in the Maine House, and it seems she saved Paul LePage's career.
