Here’s what has happened:
Andy Burnham has asked ‘The Experts’ how he can stay in power without deporting anyone or cutting immigration.
‘The experts’ (Gary Stephenson types) have told him that people don’t really dislike immigration. They’re just looking for someone to blame because of the cost of living crisis. If you just make people feel better off they’ll forget all about immigration.
All of this free stuff is just a prelude to “by the way we’re not lowering immigration”.

Regarding the Mongols, Sorghoqtani (1250?), Queen of the Mongols, who was the Mother of Kublai Khan, as well as of another khan of China and one of Persia; the daughter in law of Genghis Khan himself, became Christian household and had her sons secretly baptised.
Her son married the Greek Orthodox Byzantine princess Maria, who later became a nun (after her husband died) and she founded a monastery in Constantinople: She's a saint too, St. Maria of the Mongols, known as the nun Melania.
Her Church “St. Maria of the Mongols” is still present in Istanbul. However, the Turks broke the cross on its outside.
A modern Byzantine scholar recently used Google Maps to mark all the places in the world where the Eastern Orthodox Church held a Metropolitan diocesan presence during the time period of 1282 to 1402. You will notice in this map that there is a Metropolis as far east as Samarkand in Uzbekistan, at Shamakhi in Azerbaijan, at Tabriz not far from Urmia in Iran, and at Diyarbakir in Mesopotamia. There would have been more Metropolia in the far east prior to the sacking of Baghdad by the Mongols. But this map indicates what existed after that event, during the time of the Mongol Empire.

Most people complaining about the casting in Nolan’s Odyssey don’t fully understand what they’re objecting to because it's deeper than they realize: As such, I'll explain.
The unease they feel runs deeper than superficial complaints about “realism” or skin tone. What they can't articulate is their objection to universalizing the particular; an error characteristic of philosophical liberalism.
The Odyssey is not a universal story. It is not a detachable “hero’s journey” that can be stripped of its cultural origins and modernized for contemporary audiences. Its power lies in its particularity. The audience must do the work of closing the gap; the text does not come to us.
The values that animate it, xenia (reciprocal guest-friendship), oikos (the household and its obligations), mētis (cunning intelligence), kleos (glory), and timē (honor), are not interchangeable with modern liberal abstractions. They are embedded in a specific ancient Greek moral and social world. They are not timeless “human themes” floating free of context.
This is why the Odyssey functions today primarily as an educational text rather than popular entertainment, as it once did. It belonged to the moral universe of ancient Greece. It does not belong to ours. Its value lies precisely in its alienness: it forces us to encounter a distinct way of thinking about justice, loyalty, hospitality, and human excellence.
When critics complain that an adaptation “isn’t realistic,” they are grasping for the most accessible language to express a deeper discomfort. What actually bothers them is the erosion of cultural fidelity; the required deracination for modern audiences stripping it of its required context, which in turn strips it of all of the value that it contains. A universal Odyssey has no value.
In attempting to globalize the Odyssey, they erase what remains of an already dead culture; killing even its ghost. Ancient Greece is gone, yet we have preserved its artifacts and stories not because they resemble us, but because they are different. The point of engaging with them is to contend with what is foreign, not to replace it with comforting modernity.
Ancient Greece is remarkable, horrifying, marvelous, repulsive, and admirable all at once. It is not a culture we would want to inhabit, but it is one from which we still benefit by struggling to understand it on its own terms. Turning it into a generic vehicle for contemporary sensibilities performs a kind of reverse alchemy: it transforms something rare and demanding into something familiar and undemanding, thus making gold into lead.

The religion that developed after the return from Babylon, what eventually became known as Judeanism (Judaism), slowly shifted from looking forward to the promised messiah to making the ethnic group and the traditions themselves the center of everything.
By the time Christ showed up, a lot of them had replaced faith in the coming seed with faith in their own identity and rituals. That's why Jesus kept saying they searched the scriptures thinking they had eternal life, but those scriptures were actually pointing to Him, and they refused to come to Him.
So when people today casually call Abraham or Moses “Jews” or practicing “Judeanism/Judaism”, they're not just being historically sloppy. They're missing the entire theological point of the New Testament.
The Old Testament saints were looking for Christ. The religious leaders in Jesus' day had largely stopped doing that. They had turned their identity into an idol.
And now professing Christians believe the same thing as the Christ-rejecting 1st century Judeans: they see the Old Testament as being about Jews and not Christ.

English boomers dressed as medieval Christian warriors while celebrating goals by Africans and while England is taken over by Moslems.
That's the power of liberal constructionism.
Baudrillard called this "pure simulacra": copies without originals, a hyperreality where the simulation totally replaces the real.
Liberal capitalism is unsurpassed in its strength to absorb or hallow out symbols that challenge it into profitable memes. Individuals can simulate whatever identity they want while progressive capitalism remains intact.

I've been talking (ranting) a lot about the BBC recently, but the story of ITV is also interesting.
It was originally a set of franchises spread across the country, each contracted out to a production company - LWT, Thames, Anglia, Central, etc.
In the 1980s Thatcher's government changed the law so that these companies could buy each other up (free market, yay!). The result was that they all did so, until eventually it was just one huge company (Carlton). So a set of small companies, each with its own regional identity and production style, became one huge goliath. Then it merged with the ITV channel itself.
Recently, the channel part of ITV was sold to an American corporation, Comcast. The production part will now have to please Comcast, which will probably mean making shows that can "compete" globally. Distinctly British productions will become fewer. Wokery will be almost impossible to limit, even by the government.
The free market has transformed a wholly British ecosystem into just another node of globohomo.
We need protectionism.

Opera is the clearest example. Let the market decide and that dies tomorrow. All that talent, all that skill and years of experience and institutional memory gone. Sure, those companies are probably liberal, but once it’s gone it’s 1000 times harder to resurrect.
This is true of so many artistic and cultural endeavours which people often assume are supported purely by consumer choice.

Over 2 dozen Patriot Front members were arrested for peacefully demonstrating in protest of a gay parade. They were all doxxed immediately, even though the charges had to be dropped because there was absolutely no evidence they did anything illegal at all. The FBI literally helped the local police coordinate the arrests. In other words the FBI, the feds you people are all referring to, helped design a scheme to charge people who had done absolutely nothing illegal, so that they could be forcibly demasked and then doxxed to the media.
