I co-run Hero Records, I like food and socialism, so expect posts about all three. Oh, and about Kings Heath, the best part of Birmingham!

For the record, if you want a civilised debate with me, cool. If you're just going to insult me, however, I'll block you. Life is too short to deal with idiots.

Car-dependence was the biggest and most destructive con in history. People call bike lanes ‘social-engineering’ without realising that their reliance on cars was never inevitable, but the result of actual oil lobby sponsored social engineering without their knowledge or consent
It’s wild to think that most cities used to have extensive electric tram systems, capable of efficiently transporting people and producing zero emissions at street level. And they were persuaded a better idea would be to rip them out and have private cars take the space instead.

Your regular reminder that you have to build cycle networks, not cycle lanes.
On the Emajõgi River, Estonia’s second city Tartu has quietly built a status as the country's cycling capital. Its approach is simple but ambitious—build a complete and connected network, treat cars as guests where space is tight, and make e-bikes readily available to everyone.🧵

There needs to be a policy of junction squaring and narrowing. Make it incredibly difficult to use a junction at speed.
We need better enforcement around junctions. 'Junction and observation errors remain by far the biggest single cause.'

Two kids in crashes last week. One dead, the other critical. But the AI-generated Uxbridge by-election culture war continues apace.
Thank you to everyone who has already signed our petition opposing @BhamCityCouncil planned blanket 20mph speed limit. They should focus on tackling uninsured and unlicensed drivers and localised taregted measures not blanket ones. Add your name here: birminghamconservatives.org.…

Your reminder that cars are a virus that attack cities. Drop your defences for a minute, and they attack.
Since a driver crashed his vehicle into a bollard at such speed that the bollard had to be removed, motorists are now using this as a rat run, making John Bright Street less safe and less attractive to visitors. That’s not good for businesses. When are bollards coming back?

You’ve got to wonder how much degradation and neglect the UK’s most historic grassroots arts street will be allowed endure before anyone in power steps up and issues a Compulsory Purchase Order on behalf of REALLY angry Brummies? – at Birmingham, England

To the Birmingham politicians who bleat on endlessly about a ‘war on motorists’. Look in the eyes of the hundreds of families and lives destroyed by cars in Birmingham and may you never sleep soundly again. birminghammail.co.uk/news/mi…

It’s a good car free scheme in an area well served by public transport, community infrastructure and amenities. Council tenants were informed there was no parking and there’s a residents covenant. Anyone caught breaching that covenant should have to move elsewhere.
Visited the Perry Barr Residential Scheme today with Council officers to inspect apartment quality and discuss ongoing issues. Also looked at the lack of on-site parking for Council tenants and are exploring alternative parking options nearby. Great to see the fantastic skyline.

There are lots of drivers who intimidate pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers, damage property such as paving and street furniture and put people at risk with their dangerous driving endlessly but we don’t see it reported because we’ve normalised that constant threat.
Riders on powerful electric motorbikes are intimidating pedestrians, damaging property and putting people at risk by riding dangerously through towns and villages, communities have warned. More here: bbc.in/4hEP3Cw

Come on Birmingham, we can do the same (but quicker!)
Since @sadiqkhan was elected in 2016, we've delivered a fivefold expansion of London's network of Cycleways to over 450km - enabling millions & millions of greener, cleaner, safer & healthier journeys 🚲🚲🚲 And we're not sitting back in our saddles, there's much more to come...

Classic example of shock doctrine used on public spaces and buildings of cultural/historical importance. Run it down enough to be declared an eyesore, create consent for its destruction, replace with giant glass piece of shit. Rinse and repeat.
Twilight of Smallbrook Queensway, designed by James Roberts as part of the new inner ring road; completed 1962. Currently subject to controversial redevelopment. To the rear, one of The Sentinels (1972) - at 32 storeys, the tallest residential council housing ever built.
