Sergey Lavrov says Moscow will keep fighting until Ukraine accepts Russia’s territorial demands.
There’s a rather inconvenient piece of history behind that ultimatum: Russia formally recognized the very borders it is now trying to change by force.
In 1994, Ukraine agreed to relinquish the nuclear weapons stationed on its territory. Under the Budapest Memorandum, Russia, the United States and the United Kingdom provided security assurances, including respect for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and existing borders.
Russia subsequently reaffirmed Ukraine’s territorial integrity through bilateral agreements.
And Ukraine’s Constitution is explicit: its territory within its existing borders is indivisible and inviolable.
Yet Moscow now presents the surrender of Ukrainian land as a prerequisite for ending the invasion it launched.
That’s the fundamental contradiction in Lavrov’s position.
Russia cannot manufacture a lawful territorial entitlement simply by occupying land and threatening to continue fighting until its demands are accepted.
A military occupation does not transfer sovereignty, and international law does not recognize territorial acquisition through aggression.
Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders were never Moscow’s to renegotiate by force.

Pahimmillaan Suomi ratkaisee turvallisuusdilemman kolmesti väärin: sitoutuu Yhdysvaltoihin liian pitkäksi ja liian syvälle, jarruttaa Euroopan rivien tiivistymistä ja ajautuu epäsymmetrisiin neuvotteluihin Venäjän kanssa "turvallisuusmekanismista", jossa 1 340 kilometriä rajaa on neuvottelukohde.
Tulee mielee. Obaman periaate: Dont do stupid shit.
Eurooppa on loukussa, jonka professori Glenn Snyder muotoili näin: Pienempi liittolainen pelkää, että suurempi hylkää sen. Siksi se myötäilee. Ja myötäily sitoo sen sopimukseen, joka on tehty suuremman eduksi.
Edessä on kaksi valintaa tiivistää suhdetta entisestää tai etäisyyden ottaminen, pienellä ei yleensä ole kolmatta tietä, ellei se itse raivaa sellaista.
Meillä on nyt molemmat pelot yhtä aikaa. Jos Eurooppa jää pois Abu Dhabin sivuroolista, Washington sopii Moskovan kanssa kahden. Jos se menee sivupöytään, se on mukana allekirjoittamassa kehystä, joka on kirjoitettu Yhdysvaltain ja Venäjän välistä sovintoa varten. Italian Melonin kirje ja Puolan Sikorskin varoitus kertovat samasta asiasta eri suunnista.
Washington painostaa Eurooppaa ottamaan venäläisen kaasun takaisin "kannustimena" Moskovalle. Eurooppa maksaisi siis omasta haavoittuvuudestaan. Silkkaa hulluutta.
Kushnerin paperin "vastavuoroiset toimet rajan tuntumassa" on jätetty auki, ja jokainen aiempi versio tuosta kielestä, Wienin asiakirjasta Venäjän joulukuun 2021 vaatimuksiin, on langettanut laskun etulinjan maille. Auki jätettynä siitä kasvaa Venäjän puolittainen veto-oikeus siihen, mitä Suomi, Baltia ja Puola saavat sijoittaa omalle puolelleen rajaa. Epämääräisyys Kushnerin paperissa ei ole kömmähdys.
Moskova ei neuvottele niinkään periaatteista vaan itselleen edullisista mekanismista.
Ja loukkuun tulee uusi kierre. Välivaalitappio vahvistaa Washingtonissa vaatimuksia lopettaa Iranin sota ja karsia ulkomaisia sitoumuksia. Amerikkalainen vetäytyminen omiin rajoihin on nyt kotimaanpolitiikan valtavirtaa, ei reunailmiö.
Snyderin dilemma ratkeaa tavallaan itsestään, mutta meidän kannalta väärään suuntaan. Suurempi ei enää halua täyttää rooliaan. Kysymys ei ole siitä, hylkääkö Washington Euroopan, vaan siitä, ehtiikö Eurooppa seistä omilla jaloillaan ennen kuin tuki vedetään alta. Ukrainan sopimus, jota nyt kiirehditään, on osa samaa liikettä: yksi sitoumus vähemmän.
Suomelle loukku on erityisen ahdas.
Olemme Euroopan amerikkalaisriippuvaisimpia maita aseistuksessa: F-35, HIMARS, ilmatorjunta, puolustusyhteistyösopimus. Riippuvuus synnyttää paineen tehdä palveluksia. Se paine ei saa johtaa tinkimiseen omasta kansallisesta edusta. Palvelus, joka maksetaan omalla rajalla, ei ole järkevä.
Luotettavat kumppanit on löydettävä läheltä. Ruotsi, Norja, Tanska, Baltia, Puola, Saksa. Pohjoinen puolustus, joka kestää, vaikka Washingtonin huomio ei kestä.
Ulospääsy on sama, jonka Snyder osoitti. Vähennetään riippuvuutta suuremmasta niin paljon, ettei hylkääminen eikä sitominen ole kumpikaan kohtalokas. Meillä on pitää yhteinen strateginen visio, emmekä saa hätäillä.
Jäädytetyt varat ratkaistaan viimmein. Euroclearin yli 200 miljardia on Euroopan suurin kortti ja ainoa, jota Washington ei voi pelata. Tuotoista siirrytään pääomaan. Se kantaa Ukrainan kahden vuoden yli ja ottaa varat pois kaikesta, mistä Yhdysvallat ja Venäjä voisivat sopia.
Ukrainan vuosi 2027 päätetään yhtenä pakettina nyt syksyllä: raha, ammukset, ilmapuolustus. Venäjän koko laskelma lepää sen varassa, että lännen tuki väsyy ennen kuin Venäjän tappiot käyvät sietämättömiksi. Monivuotinen eurooppalainen sitoumus murtaa sen laskelman. Se vie tulitaukoa lähemmäs kuin yksikään lähettiläs.
Pohjoinen ja itäinen sivusta rakennetaan tosiasiaksi ennen kuin siitä puhutaan Trumpin vävypojan paperilla. Suorituskykyä, joka on jo olemassa, ei neuvotella kehyksen sisältä pois. Eikä mikään kehys saa siihen sananvaltaa jälkikäteen. Mitään mekanismia ei saisi hyväksyä.

I've changed how I work over the last few weeks.
I now have one lead agent for each area of focus, running all the time, and a chief of staff agent that oversees them. Each lead manages its own sub-agents that write code, test it, chase reviews, and coordinate with team members.
Everything I need to decide or review comes into one prioritized queue, a simple local web app. Each product review includes screenshots and a video demo of the feature. I clear the queue in batches, mostly by voice and keyboard shortcuts. The leads also bring back ideas I hadn't considered.
Working from one queue, instead of switching between dozens of chats, has cut a lot of mental overhead. The system keeps learning my preferences and distilling my judgment into a "Brian brain," so its recommendations and first drafts get better before they reach me. The goal is fewer corrections per change.
Every change still goes through the same human review and security checks. It is eliminating tasks, not human judgment.
What an exciting time to push the frontier of productivity, especially as we build the economy for agents (agentic finance). We should all keep pushing in this direction.

Але удари, тепер, стали сильніші і масованіші.
Подивіться на ці фото - це з останніх ударів по Новокуйбишевську, Кстово та Ярославлю. Поки пишу ці строки не менш апокаліптично горить НПЗ в Гвардєйском в окупованому Криму.
Ці пошкодження, навідміну від багатьох попередніх, по словам самих росіян вже швидко вони не відремонтують. Якщо взагалі можна там щось відремонтувати.
Коли НПЗ добʼються, ЗСУ перейде на нові цілі що ще більше вдарить по російським спроможностям вести війну.
Бо росіяни вже зменшують виплати за підписання військового контракту. І суттєво.
У певних частинах всрф повернулись ліміти на пальне. І ще більші ніж були. А те пальне яке постачають неякісне, що виводить їхню техніку зі строю надовго.
Ми їх дотиснемо!

Democrat Nancy Lacore, a 35-year Navy veteran who rose through the ranks from helicopter pilot to become Chief of Navy Reserve, was fired in August of 2025 amid Hegseth's purging of high-ranking women in the military. While no official reason was given, the deeply misogynistic Hegseth has not been coy about his caveman belief that only testosterone-injecting men should serve.
Lacore has now defeated Republican Jenny Costa Honeycutt to seize a seat that was formerly held by MAGA lunatic Nancy Mace who launched a failed bid for the governor's mansion this year.
Lacore has not been shy about criticizing Hegseth's disastrous mismanagement of the Defense Department, particularly his failed Iran War.
"Pete Hegseth is the most unqualified Secretary of Defense that we have ever had, and he is doing significant damage to our military that it will really take decades to undo," she said, adding that he "needs to go."
The most beautiful irony here? Congresswoman Lacore could soon be voting with the rest of the Democratic majority in the House to impeach Pete Hegseth. We have subpoena power starting in January, so we'll be able to uncover all of the gross negligence and rampant criminality that he's overseen.

We won so big that he can't even claim it was rigged this time...
“I am absolutely willing to accept those results,” Trump told The New York Times.
He's already blaming his party's collapse at the ballot box on the candidates themselves, even though exit polls prove that Americans despise Trump and his policies. They're fed up with endless wars, high gas prices, and rampant corruption in the White House.
“We’ll work with the Democrats, and we’ll, you know, look forward to working with them. We’ll probably work something out," Trump added.
Of course, he'll have no choice but to "work" with Democrats because we now control the House and Senate. His somewhat conciliatory reaction to this overwhelming blowout shows that he's worried. He knows that we have subpoena power now and the moment that these new senators and representatives are sworn in, Democrats are going to launch a sprawling wave of investigations into his crimes.
We also can't rule out the possibility that Trump will reverse course, cry foul, and try to claim the election was "stolen" in the coming days. But even then, he won't be able to do a thing now that we've won so big!

We are not inviting Putin to Kyiv. They came to us without an invitation in 2022. But that’s not why there’s no point in inviting Putin to Kyiv. It’s because he won’t come. The same goes for inviting me to Moscow. What Russia is doing is destructive. It’s simply spitting in the face of the whole world that wants this war to end. That’s why no one will support going to Moscow.
As for a phone call, Russia will use it as an excuse to avoid any further meetings. And we understand this game. It leads nowhere. It would just be a very formal, dry phone conversation where I would once again have to listen to a history lecture from the leader of the Russian Federation, rather than hear about real steps to actually end the war.
If we want to end the war, we have to meet and take the first step: a ceasefire.

Finland, the reigning world champion, has announced that it will refuse to play against Russia at the Ice Hockey World Championships as long as Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues.
Finland is now working with other Nordic and major European hockey nations to form a united boycott front.
If enough countries join, holding the tournament with Russia participating could become impossible.
Meanwhile, Germany is considering withdrawing as host of the 2027 World Championships if Russia is allowed to compete.
