we absolutely should in fact genetically engineer bioluminescent plants & trees and then completely eradicate the affront to God that is LED street lights from the face of the Earth
I can’t wait for the day before the IPO when Claude lights all the math proofs on fire, stomps out of Anthropic saying “do you have any idea how EASY this is for me?!” then “tell them I had to go see about a girl,” and drives across the country, leaving its friends and therapist smiling to themselves, thinking “good job, Claude… go live your life.”
I don’t know if Dario is Ben Affleck or Robin Williams in this arc.
Looking at the volume of trades on Polymarket and Kalshi, it seems relatively cheap for a political campaign or associated PACs to place bets, swing the odds toward their candidates, and claim it as proof of voter buy-in/momentum.
My guess is there is a lot of narrative engineering taking place.

This is craftsmanship.
This is sweating the small stuff.
This is obsession.
This is caring about the tiniest of details.
This is devotion to excellence.
This is beautiful.
Once applied to vessels >200 tons, autonomy will remake the ocean economy.
BREAKING: Anduril and HD Hyundai have successfully tested autonomous navigation on a 368-ton former U.S. Navy vessel off the coast of California.
The 3.5-hour trial integrated HD Hyundai's VAOne navigation technology with Anduril's Lattice software, allowing the vessel to navigate autonomously, adapt to changing mission requirements, and respond to simulated system failures.

sorry anthropic is generating 1/5th the revenue of every single software company in the world, right now, today?
Watching my little boy freak out after watching a car kick flip over 5 other cars made me realize that doing things just cause they are awesome is underrated.
@elonmusk and @Tesla made my son absolutely stoked on the future, even if just for a morning… no negativity, just wonder.
All the haters cannot claim the same.
Doing stuff that little boys think is awesome is a service to humanity.

China: America, you won the last century, but now we have 4x as many people as you, 10x as many engineers, and an integrated party-state-corporate-finance apparatus that can build anything at will. Your time is over.

UAE raises the bar
Dubai has the most unrealistic standards for government services. I wanted to rent a car on Sunday, had the thought on Saturday night. I realized I need an Emirati license as I am a resident so have to convert my current one.
Started my application online, went to the 24/7 happiness centre that processes any government related issue. Got an eye test, waited 2 minutes, got the new license printed on the spot. Whole thing took 30 minutes. They even had a cafe in the centre and were walking around with a jug giving out arabic coffee. I love this place

Well, we are at 0.04% of global commercial shipbuilding so I think we need to climb out of the grave we have dug ourselves into if we even havw to crawl.
Any increase in naval ship construction needs a complimentary commercial component or else we are just repeating what we did in the 80s.

Climate change cost the world at least a huge $2.8 trillion in the first two decades of this century -amounting to $16 million an hour - the UN reports. Costs for developing countries alone, it adds, could reach $580 billion a year by 2030.

time to invert this curve
America has 16,876 machine shops.
83% employ fewer than 20 people. Just nine employ more than 500.
New defense companies are moving from prototypes to mass production, and every missile, drone, ship, and rocket they ultimately produce needs to run through one of these small shops.
That friction is a national security liability.

Great podcast by @AaronBMacLean with Alex Wong of @PhillyShipyard.
One relevant point.
▶️The @USNavy consists of 8 million gross tons of ships.
▶️In a peer-to-peer conflict, the US Navy may lose a quarter (2M tons) of shipping that needs to be replaced or repaired.
▶️US shipbuilding capacity is only 25k tons/year (0.025M tons/year)
▶️The world builds 80M tons/year and in 2025 with China building 53%
The conclusion is that if the US wants to compete as a naval power, it has to build up its shipbuilding base.
This cannot be done by merely building naval ships, but by expanding the U.S. commerical base.
The goal should be a growth from 0.03% to 5% (400k/tons).
