It’s important not to understate how few homeless RV residents will likely be able to obtain a permit under this regime. Also, the council made it clear that it doesn't see RV/trailer living — including by folks who aren't homeless — as a legitimate form of housing in Seattle.
NEW: The Seattle City Council just passed legislation, that while presented as a permitting program, will effectively ban homeless people living in RVs and trailers on city streets. The city doesn't even have a safe lot open yet. Read in @TheStranger: thestranger.com/news/seattle

Please consider donating to support the laid off McClatchy journalists at the Idaho Statesman who just lost half of their staff.
10 Idaho Statesman reporters — more than half the staff — were laid off Thursday by McClatchy, our hedge-fund-backed owner. Sadly, many don’t have large savings. Please consider donating to help cover their bills. Any amount helps! bit.ly/4cGQk8X

Years before Nirvana and Soundgarden blew up in the 90's, the Seattle rap scene was bubbling beneath the surface. A new walking map takes you back to that crucial decade in hip hop history. new by me @seattletimes seattletimes.com/entertainme

National media loves to treat local reporters like the minor leagues. Network panels argue about ‘the national mood’ for 3 hours and still tell you less than the local reporter who’s covered the same town for 15 years. Big difference between being famous and being informed.
if you can't handle local tv, how are you going to be able to handle national media, much of which has an interest in pushing/pursuing narratives about how terrible you/your state are?

Stay tuned for my next TED Talk, "No, you can't read the article before it's published."
This is a common misunderstanding. We don’t/can’t quote everyone we talk to. You can stop returning calls, but that basically guarantees you’ll never be quoted

Speaking in general terms: When you’re a journalist who happens to be White, they call your work “analysis.” When you’re a journalist representing a “minoritized” community, they call your work “activism” with an “agenda.” #JournalismSoWhite âŹ‡ïž
Hot take: As an editor, there *is* a difference between journalism and activism, and if you are from a minority community you sometimes have to make sure *that your identity is not seen as a bias* Let me explain:
