I am Albertan. I am not conservative. I believe in climate change. I support unions. I support civil disobedience. I support Public Ed & Healthcare. I will never separate. Michelle Rempel does not represent me. That's my declaration. #IAmAlbertan

Unless there is some very quick action the answer is apparently, yes... AB needs to be taken to task for breaking the Canada Health Act. Many of us feel it needs reform. Not ignoring it. Has the federal government abandoned public health care?;url=policyalternatives.ca/news-r…

As someone who spent years homeless, battling addiction and mental health challenges, I don't just understand the importance of this message. I've lived it. Housing, health care, and support gave me a second chance at life. I completely approve of this message. 🇨🇦❤️ Now let's turn those promises into action!
In Budget 2026, we’re laying out a path to end homelessness within the next decade — backed by nearly $30 billion to bring help, housing, and health care together. Because in Canada, we take care of each other.

Robert Reich absolutely nails it. When one billionaire can spend hundreds of millions influencing elections, control a major social media platform, collect billions in government contracts, and influence military operations, we have a serious problem. That's not democracy, that's oligarchy. Billionaires should not have more political power than the people who elect their governments. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Very worrisome. Overall access is far too poor. But the regional differences highlight something else. Total system integration is missing in BC as it is now in AB with the loss of AHS. Centralized systems can work on outliers in a way decentralized ones can't.
New report on CT/MRI wait times in BC. Based on FOI data, this shows typical waits are 2-7 times longer than recommended benchmarks. Waits at many sites are MUCH longer. This prevents a very different picture than the glowing reports of new capacity govt likes to report.

Today’s the day. My new podcast, It Should be Different, launches on all platforms. This has been a true passion project and I can’t wait to continue to engage all of you in the future of Canadian health care. Four episodes launch today, including a quick trailer, and episodes featuring Dr. Catherine Varner, an emergency room physician in Toronto, Dr. Paul Parks, an emergency room physician in Medicine Hat, and Dr. Rick Ward, a family physician and senior medical director in Calgary. In future episodes, you’ll meet a health care historian, specialists, and more. Episodes will drop the first and third Wednesday of each month. Please let me know what you think. Together, we can improve health care in Canada.

BREAKING!!!! The UCP has voted unanimously to pass their gerrymandered maps that explicitly went against the recommendations of the judge in the original report. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

Trevor, we've been down this road before. I was there. In 2008, as a newly elected PC MLA, I witnessed one of the most remarkable caucus debates of my political career. Minister Lindsay Blackett brought proposals concerning Alberta's Human Rights Commission to caucus, amid pressure from Ezra Levant and others claiming it entertained frivolous complaints. There was discussion about abolishing the Commission and leaving hate-speech matters to the Criminal Code. I was so opposed that I walked out, declaring, “This is not the Progressive Conservative Party of Peter Lougheed or Ralph Klein!” George Rogers and the late Hon. Gene Zwozdesky followed me out and brought me back. Their advice? Never walk out of caucus. Stay, debate and persuade your colleagues. Normally, cabinet proposals passed quickly. This debate lasted nearly a month. We heard deeply personal stories of discrimination. First, racialized MLAs shared their experiences. Then older colleagues of German ancestry described discrimination their families endured after WWII. Finally, Premier @EdStelmachMLA spoke about discrimination he experienced because of his Ukrainian heritage and accent. There wasn't a dry eye in the room. Premier Stelmach demonstrated extraordinary courage and empathy! He announced we would NOT abolish the Human Rights Commission. Instead, we'd strengthen its processes, preserve its independence and screen out frivolous complaints. In 2009, we passed Bill 44, formally adding sexual orientation to Alberta's human rights legislation, following the Supreme Court's landmark 1998 Vriend v. Alberta decision. I was enormously proud of Premier Stelmach that day. He didn't ask for a caucus vote. He'd made his decision as Premier and asked for our support. I remember thunderous applause from most of caucus with the exception of @FreeAlbertaRob & @TedMortonMLA But the debate didn't end there. In 2014, as Liberal leader, our House Leader Laurie Blakeman introduced Bill 202 to protect LGBTQ students and guarantee gay-straight alliances in schools. It divided the PCs and created controversy for Danielle Smith's Wildrose Party. The late Premier Jim Prentice introduced a competing Bill 10. I voted against its original version alongside Laurie, Danielle and others. Following public opposition, Premier Prentice reconsidered. Revised legislation protecting gay-straight alliances passed in 2015. Again, leadership mattered. Human rights protect ALL Albertans: Indigenous peoples, racial minorities, women, people with disabilities, religious minorities and LGBTQ communities. Frivolous complaints should be dismissed, but that doesn't justify dismantling protections against discrimination. Freedom of expression and protection from discrimination are not mutually exclusive. Nearly two decades later, we're revisiting the same debate, again following pressure from Ezra Levant. @ABDanielleSmith should remember the lessons of Premiers Stelmach and the late Premier Prentice. True leadership means defending the rights of ALL Albertans, even when it upsets your own supporters. Weakening human rights protections to satisfy one political constituency would be morally wrong and politically disastrous. Then again, the Premier does have a history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. :) @nenshi @Alberta_UCP @UCPCaucus @albertaNDP @TheBreakdownAB @ryanjespersen @cspotweet @LukaszukAB
Smith made the comments Saturday at an event organized by right-wing news site Rebel Media, after host Ezra Levant challenged her to repeal section 3 of the Alberta Human Rights Act. #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli edmontonjournal.com/news/pol…

The getaway driver never entered the bank, but that doesn't mean he bears no responsibility for the robbery. The same principle applies to public office. In my Member Statement, I spoke about fiduciary duty, integrity and the responsibility of elected MLAs. With allegations of corruption surrounding government procurement, an ongoing RCMP investigation and multiple court cases, simply saying “Show me the evidence and I'll act” isn't good enough. Ministers have a duty to ask questions, challenge questionable decisions and act when warning signs are all around them. Ignorance cannot be used as a shield against accountability, and sticking your head in the sand is no answer. We weren't elected to protect those in power. We were elected to protect the public interest. #abpoli #ableg #abtory #cdnpoli #ucp #accountability #alberta

I endorse what Raghu has been observing. There has been a big increase in daily volumes well before respiratory season.
ERs in Ontario - like in Toronto - are flooded with exceptionally high volume since Labour Day. I am publicly flagging that even before the full brunt of respiratory season we have a serious major problem. We are not keeping up. We need immediate real solutions. @SylviaJonesMPP @ShamjiAdil @RobinLennox @NickelBelt @OntariosDoctors @ONThealth @OntHospitalAssn @NightShiftMD @alanna_smithh @picardonhealth @Megan_Ogilvie @Thetrilliumca @tylerwatt

Vance says “The reason we lost is the war.” Yeh. But also tariffs, driving up prices well before the war. Unleashing ICE & CBP in a cruel assault on immigrants who aren’t “the worst of the worst.” There’s the unprecedented corruption. Trump added $2.2 billion to his net worth & surrounded himself with billionaires. There’s disruption of the social safety net, with cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and ACA subsides. And Trump’s complete cluelessness - his ballroom, the reflecting pool, adding his name to the Kennedy Center. And finally his obsession with John Husted’s butt.

MAHA has never been about making America healthy again. At least, its leadership hasn’t. It’s always been about removing pesky regulations that kept quacks from preying on desperate patients.
I had a call with MAHA folks a couple months after the election when they were mocking and spitting in the face of scientists and public health officials. They made clear they were relying on influencers, with top advisers being functional medicine docs and chiropractors. They had no interest in being connected with folks who've been doing public health nutrition work for decades and learning which levers to press. The only place to go from here is to own up to the serious harm they've caused and admit to getting drunk on anti-establishment power that made them turn a blind eye to the harms of aligning with an obvious deregulatory administration explicitly against their stated goals, admit to the wellness griftication of MAHA and commit to expunging it, and leverage their residual political capital to help experts push actual policies and mechanisms to improve public health.
