This is a brilliant reframe that I'll be using moving forward. Neurotypical is a punishing social standard, not a type of privileged person. None of us lives up to NT standards all the time, and they don't suit anyone well though some can conform to it more readily than others.
ALT Somehow the word "neurotypical" doesn't rest well with my soul. It doesn't do justice to the diversity that exists in the population. It truly others people, and in the end it is left to people with for example autism and ADHD to fight for everyone. "Neuroconformity" might be a better description of what is occurring here. Something we are all forced to do, and those who can't and won't are lambasted and dehumanised. Rather than "neurotypical" being a description of "normality", "neuroconformity" is part of the cis white neoliberal landscape
