First time getting published in the NY Times. I'm very happy with how it turned out. Lets focus on teaching the students, and the rest will work out!

Latest blog post. Why are some projects able to move so much faster with AI?

Really great talk from @wpugh on the shifts on how to teach/work with agents.

This week's blog post is from @p0nk about how the reports of the death (of our Industry) are greatly exaggerated.
Just today a student told me he is worried about Software Engineering will be dead in "a few years", so this is quite timely.

This week in our blog, Michael is sharing his observations on how coding agent use sometimes leads to unproductive slot machine programming in his courses and what we might do about it: thelastsoftwareengineer.subs…
Here is a new piece I wrote about "Slot Machine Programming" and the Hidden Curriculum.

Great article from @p0nk. I have been inspired by many of these changes in my course as well...
Pretty much at every academic event I went to in the last year, I end up talking to others about how to change teaching in response to AI. Since I keep repeating myself, I figured I might just as well write down what we have been doing: thelastsoftwareengineer.subs…
This is a super cool finding: "Computer Science Achievement and Writing Skills Predict Vibe Coding Proficiency"
Yet another piece of evidence that CS Education is not going away!

Good piece of writing by @michaelhilton. I'm often working with developers trying to 'reverse engineer' the API semantics of complex distributed system components at Microsoft and express them in Accordant. Developers often appeal to internal impl details when talking about how APIs work the way they do. Spec-driven development - turbo charged by AI - inverts the process. Write your specification - ideally in formal code - and design your system from the outside in.
I'm excited to share a new blog that @p0nk and I have started. Here is my first article about how AI is changing how we think about the role of Software Engineer: thelastsoftwareengineer.subs…
Great to see @jasonthacker on there!!

Had an idea for a science-and-faith lending library a couple of years ago - something small, where it wouldn't be a big deal if books walked off. I think we're finally getting close.
So proud of my amazing daughter and her graduation from high school. I’m so excited that she will be coming to @CarnegieMellon with me!! I’m so excited for the next four years!
Really great article from my friend Chris who came to visit my class, then wrote up some ideas: christophermeiklejohn.com/ai…

Whenever I tell Europeans of this you can see the fear in their eyes as decades of propaganda evaporates in front of them, and they have no choice but to pretend they still don’t get it

Nope, Fahrenheit means "% hot." When it is 0°, it is 0% hot. When it is 50°, it is 50% hot. When it is 100°, it is 100% hot. This is right and you know it
