Who else would buy a St. Michael the Archangel inflatable like this for their front yard? I’m tired of seeing witches, and creepy decorations everywhere. If we’re going to reclaim All Hallows’ Eve, let’s do it with something bold, eye-catching, and anything but lame!

I'm on a long-term P.G. Wodehouse jag. I started with "Psmith, Journalist", quickly read all the Psmith books (you should read them in order: "Mike & Psmith", "Psmith in the City", "Psmith, Journalist" and "Leave it to Psmith" to see the magnificent character arc.) Then I read the Jeeves & Wooster books and absolutely fell in love. J&W were Wodehouse' masterpiece. (At least, so far.) Now I'm starting the "Blandings Castle" stories. I'm well aware of how much fun I have coming. What a genius! "It’s always annoying when you’re up against it and people tell you what a jolly time you could be having if you weren’t and how topping everything would be if you were somewhere where you aren’t." - P.G. Wodehouse.

The Pen That Saved Apollo 11 From Being A Permanent Moon Tomb. When Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin returned to the lunar module after their historic moonwalk, they realized they had a catastrophic problem. While maneuvering inside the cramped cabin in his bulky spacesuit, Aldrin's life-support backpack had accidentally smashed into the wall. The impact completely snapped off the vital circuit breaker switch needed to arm the ascent engine. Without that specific switch, the engine could not ignite, meaning the two astronauts would be permanently stranded on the lunar surface with no hope of a rescue mission. With only hours of oxygen remaining and Houston control scrambling for a workaround, the situation seemed entirely hopeless. The engineers on Earth frantically tried to find a way to bypass the electrical system, but time was rapidly running out. Exhausted and facing the very real possibility of dying 240,000 miles from home, Aldrin decided to take matters into his own hands. He began looking around the cabin for anything that could safely fit into the broken circuit breaker hole without conducting electricity and sparking a fatal fire in the oxygen-rich environment. Aldrin reached into his shoulder pocket and pulled out a standard-issue felt-tip marker. Because the pen's casing was made of plastic, it would not short out the electrical contacts. He carefully jammed the end of the marker into the broken switch hole and pushed. The circuit closed, the engine armed, and the lunar module successfully blasted off the moon's surface to reunite with Michael Collins in orbit. It turns out the greatest technological achievement in human history was ultimately saved by a piece of office stationery.

Once we stood together, with our banners flying high. And now, the only banner left is mine.
Nobody warned us that growing older would mean becoming the keeper of memories nobody else remembers. The family stories. The little traditions. The voices of people who are gone. Sometimes remembering feels like keeping them alive.

The only time the Gospels record Jesus writing anything, He wrote it in the dirt. And we’re never told what it said. It’s early morning in the temple courts. Jesus is teaching. Suddenly the scribes and Pharisees drag a woman into the middle of the crowd. β€œTeacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” (John 8:4–5) It’s a trap. Say β€œlet her go,” and He breaks the Law of Moses. Say β€œstone her,” and He loses the sinners who followed Him, and defies Rome, which reserved executions for itself. And Jesus does something nobody expects. β€œJesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground.” (v.6) They keep pressing. He stands up and says the line the whole world knows: β€œLet him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” Then He bends down and writes on the ground again. (v.8) And one by one, starting with the oldest, they walk away. So what did He write? People have guessed for centuries. The sins of the accusers (some later manuscripts even add that). A line of the Law. Or nothing at all, just a deliberate refusal to play their game. But there’s one Old Testament verse the scribes would have known by heart, and it changes everything: β€œO LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you shall be put to shame; those who turn away from you shall be written in the earth, for they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living water.” - Jeremiah 17:13 Written in the earth. Names written in dust, the opposite of names written in heaven. Names the wind erases. Now look at what happened the day before, in the same temple. Jesus stood up at the Feast and cried out: β€œIf anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink... rivers of living water” (John 7:37–38). He had just offered Himself as the fountain of living water. These men had rejected Him. And now He kneels and writes in the earth. We can’t prove what His finger traced. But if these experts in the Law understood what they were watching, it’s no wonder they dropped their stones and left, oldest first. Notice the other detail: the woman was β€œcaught in the act,” yet the man is nowhere. The Law required both to face judgment (Leviticus 20:10). The trial was rigged from the start. And the finger writing in the dust? The same finger of God once wrote the Law on tablets of stone (Exodus 31:18). The Lawgiver Himself was kneeling in the courtyard. When everyone was gone, only two remained: the sinner and the only One who was without sin. The only One who had the right to throw a stone. β€œNeither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.” (v.11) Her accusers’ names, written in dust. Hers, written somewhere else.

I still think Atari's "-Drivin'" games and Stunt Racer on the Amiga would be unbelievably cool with 60fps frame rates.
