As politicians, we have a duty to seek to improve the public’s understanding of issues such as the funding of public services.
Since the publication of the UK Budget, some have disputed the fact that the Welsh budget faces a real-term cut following the Chancellor’s announcement.
I of course respect others’ right to disagree with our position, but in fulfilling our responsibility to the public, such disagreement should be grounded in the fullest understanding of the issues at hand, given the profound impacts on the funding for Welsh public services in the coming years.
In that spirit, my colleague the Finance Minister Elin Jones has issued a Written Statement to the Senedd today explaining the figures in full.
