Reconciliation is not Justice. Reconciliation does not fund Indigenous Peoples to have dedicated time to learn our languages (like resources given to the French language). Reconciliation does not give our #LandBack. It does not rebuild our Nations dismantled through 🇨🇦 law.

On #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay it is important to celebrate the diversity of Indigenous cultures, recognize our resilience, & learn about our history. We encourage everyone to show support, amplify Indigenous voices, & honour Indigenous cultures, traditions, & contributions!

I routinely hug my patients. The Nehiyô medical system is based in love, sahkitowin ❤️ In western medicine that may be “unprofessional” or crossing a boundary. In Nehiyawewin this is not a pastahowin (crossing a boundary), but part of being human with another human in need.
It is pretty cool seeing one of my education projects (#4) featured in the New England Journal of Medicine. 😊

Queer youth are brave, beautiful, & revolutionary in their joy. They deserve to bring the unique medicine they carry into adulthood & beyond. ✨ We MUST remain diligent as accomplices to these young queer relatives this Pride month and always because they ARE our future. ✊🏽🏳️🌈🪶

Pride month is celebrated in June every year as a tribute to those who were involved in the Stonewall riots on June 28, 1969.
Whether you are part of the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community or an ally, there are ways to show support during the month-long celebration.

Today has been a really rough reminder that as a Black Woman, we experience medical training so differently. And the worst part is it’s very indirect and subtle. It’s not an explicit difference most of the time, but it’s palpable.

The hardest part about being a med student is there’s no pause button. We’re told to take care of ourselves and take the time we need, but the culture of medicine forces you to compartmentalize and “carry-on business as usual”. It’s so distressing to experience and witness.

One of the most frustrating facts about life is that it really just goes on?? Like how are there people so unaffected by tragic news?? Like today is just another day when it’s absolutely not??
I am tired of losing our young people.
I am tired of our young people, community members, and elders having to repeatedly grieve.

I miss my grandma a lot. She’s always tell me she didn’t need a holiday to be thankful, to give gifts, or one to celebrate her partner, her family, or her parents, or being indigenous, because she did those things every day. A lot of natives are like that & I love that.
