Please read every word of this, from Yuval.
"In one sense, the range of explanations is so broad, and the public rebuke so overdetermined, that it might make it hard to decide where and how to change course. But in another sense, the comprehensive character of the problem makes it easier to define: The problem is Donald Trump. And the way forward for Republicans must begin by putting Trump behind them and asking themselves what they have to offer the country in his wake." nationalreview.com/corner/an…

Kansas last elected a Dem to the US Senate in 1932. What was important about 1932?
Republicans passed the Smoot-Hawley tariff in 1930, and in '32 voters had the 1st chance to respond to its effects. Dems gained 97 House, 12 Senate seats, 11 governorships & the presidency.

What a bloodbath. I can't believe they flipped *Texas*. I'm skeptical there will be any earnest soul searching, but people are clearly sick of the corruption, the inflation, the war, the abuse of power, the memes/propaganda, and the incompetence.

The great thing is we will get past next week, sit a new Congress, watch them do next to nothing and then starting in JUNE, the 2028 Prez campaign will kick off and it will be 17 months months of endless chatter, prediction markets, and campaigns.
Will never end.

Replying to @rubio
@Rubio stood at the Acropolis and traced America's roots to ancient Athens.
Many of today's students wouldn't know how follow him: AP World History doesn't cover ancient Greece, and the ancient-world AP course the College Board promised in 2019 never launched.
A century ago, schools swapped history for "social studies" and taught kids to analyze greatness instead of aspire to it.

Bret Saberhagen was 21 years old when he shut out the Cardinals in Game 7 of the 1985 World Series. He'd won the Cy Young that year too, going 20 and 6. Four years later he went 23 and 6 with a 2.16 ERA and won it again.
In Kansas City his best seasons kept landing in odd numbered years, 1985, 1987, 1989 and 1991, and nobody ever really explained why. He's fourth among Royals here.
Who's first among Royals for you?

With all of the talk about salary caps and floors going on right now, check out this fascinating graphic from @Brooks_Gate showing 2025 payroll + luxury tax as a share of 2024 revenue.
You already knew the Marlins were a small payroll team, but I'll bet you didn't know just how CHEAP they were, putting just 27% of revenue back into payroll. That's a distant last place in baseball, nearly 5 points behind the White Sox.
Spending big isn't just a revenue thing either; the Mets, Dodgers, Blue Jays, and Phillies all went over the luxury tax AND put at least 2/3 of revenue into payroll + tax. Meanwhile the Cubs, 3rd in MLB in revenue, are 26th at 36.4%. The Yankees, sporting the 2nd-highest revenue in the game, are putting less than half of that into payroll + tax.

Survey fans on cheaper tickets, $5 beers, free parking, no blackouts, every game on one affordable streaming service, no jersey ads and fewer commercials.
Funny how fan opinion suddenly matters when it aligns with the owners’ financial interests.
These guys aren’t prepared to sacrifice billions in revenue and risk a work stoppage out of concern for competitive balance. They do not give a shit about competitive balance.
Owners want a cap because they believe it benefits them financially. Full stop. The fan surveys are just a convenient way to sell it.
Trying to convince fans that billionaire owners suddenly care about them is insulting.
“Owners do not intend to pivot from their contentions. Their insistence on a cap and floor -- backed, the league says, by surveys that show fans want one”, per @JeffPassan

May appear to be a knee-jerk reaction, but that was the worst loss Texas has suffered under Sarkisian.
An undermanned, undertalented Oklahoma team just won a game they had no business winning because Texas could not get out of their own way for 60 straight minutes.
Blocked punt for a TD, pick-six, INT negated to penalty, an INT throw under 0:30 left. Just abysmally executed and coached the entire way through.

This is good information, but may I suggest that college can be something far grander than a tryout or training for paid work?
