Read to your kids. First night home from the hospital and every day until they can read to you, and then read more. Read Goodnight Moon and Old Yeller and Flyguy and Magic Treehouse and Harry Potter and Berenstain Bears and the Bible and biographies of heroes and more.
If I seem grumpy lately it's because I'm reading piles of recent national surveys about why parents don't read to their kids for my dissertation and... Y'all. 😐 "My child prefers screentime." "I find it boring." "It's useless."

Please read every word of this, from Yuval. "In one sense, the range of explanations is so broad, and the public rebuke so overdetermined, that it might make it hard to decide where and how to change course. But in another sense, the comprehensive character of the problem makes it easier to define: The problem is Donald Trump. And the way forward for Republicans must begin by putting Trump behind them and asking themselves what they have to offer the country in his wake." nationalreview.com/corner/an…

Kansas last elected a Dem to the US Senate in 1932. What was important about 1932? Republicans passed the Smoot-Hawley tariff in 1930, and in '32 voters had the 1st chance to respond to its effects. Dems gained 97 House, 12 Senate seats, 11 governorships & the presidency.

When we say “it’s the economy” this is what we mean.
Coming soon to an inbox near you: "it wasn't the tariffs" and "real tariffs haven't been tried." Don't buy it. A) It wasn't ONLY the tariffs, but the polls/results are clear: they were a BIG anchor. B) This IS real tariffs. They raise prices BY DESIGN, fuel cronyism/carveouts, hurt smallbiz & many manufacturers, alienate allies, & cause many other problems/distortions - especially when done by executive action (which boosts uncertainty). There's a reason these taxes have been mostly abandoned - by the US and every other rich country. The GOP should stop listening to the protectionist fundamentalists (and cronies) and abandon them too.

What a bloodbath. I can't believe they flipped *Texas*. I'm skeptical there will be any earnest soul searching, but people are clearly sick of the corruption, the inflation, the war, the abuse of power, the memes/propaganda, and the incompetence.

Thunderstorms that wake you up in the middle of the night might be one of the worst ways I’ve been awakened on Election Day.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but we are now on standard time and this is how things should be.

The USNI did one of these posts for Tom Skerritt, too. Just lovely tributes 🩷
We remember Sir Patrick Stewart, who died on 28 October at age 86, leaving a remarkable legacy on stage and screen. As Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek, Stewart brought intelligence, dignity, and moral courage to the responsibilities of command. His portrayal had roots in naval fiction: Gene Roddenberry encouraged him to read C. S. Forester’s Horatio Hornblower novels to help shape the character. His maritime roles also included Captain Ahab in Moby Dick (1998) and Captain Nemo in Mysterious Island (2005)—commanders whose very different journeys explored obsession, ambition, and the consequences of power. From the quarterdeck to the bridge of the Enterprise, Stewart gave unforgettable depth to the figures who stood in command—and invited audiences to consider what leadership requires. We need baseball on the radio so we don’t have to watch games with inappropriate advertising and we can listen to “out of market” games that are blocked on television and so we can have on the broadcast to override in-game interviews by Ken Rosenthal. For starters.

I think it’s great and we need more good sports in sports.
What are your thoughts on active players attending a game and cheering on another team?
