After finishing skimming through this thread I’m convinced that fashion people are all crazy. They can literally label the same thing ugly on Tuesday and high fashion on Thursday.
Elections are heating up in the US. Just opened my mail to find the Republican candidate who is a man of Indian origin, posting a picture of his Democratic rival, a White Jewish woman wrapped up in a Hijab. Hence is the Muslimophobic state of American politics.
Some desi atheists have been a big disappointment. When you rejected dogma, you adopted equality under the law and secularism. A brown or Arab person utilizing the same secularism and rising to the level of senator should make you proud of the system working. Yet you call him ungrateful slave and accuse him of extremism despite all evidence to the contrary. The religion you hate made you suspect every person associated with or born in that religion suspect. It is nothing but a form of self hate. You’ve just swapped one dogma for another.

This is how it should work in theory. But Muslims I talk to point to a different issue: since your vote helps determine the laws that apply to Muslims in the US too, they believe voting for pro-LGBT policies can make them complicit in enabling a Muslim brother, sister, son, or daughter to marry their same-sex partner, which they believe is itself a sin. So for them, the issue isn’t simply “I’m not personally doing it.” They see voting for the policy as enabling something they believe another Muslim should also not be doing. Since Islam does not stop at your own nose.
