I do not understand why we #Somalis do not take up the debate about #AMISOM. They have been in country for 15y, security has not changed & the state lacks control over large parts. Does AMISOM contribute to increased security or is #Somalia just a project for certain countries?? – at Trondheim, Norway

Congratulations to @FawziWarsame on becoming the new leader of AUF, a historic milestone for Somali representation in Norwegian politics! At a time when Somalis face growing hostility, discrimination and negative political rhetoric across Europe and the US, his rise carries significance far beyond party politics. Alongside Ilhan Omar in the US, Sagal Abdi-Wali in the UK, Marian Hussein in Norway and Somali political leaders in Sweden, Fawzi represents a new generation breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes. While some seek to define Somalis through prejudice and exclusion, this generation is redefining the narrative through leadership, democratic participation and public service. Somalis are not just part of society. They are helping shape its future.

Congratulations, @Sagal_AW! A Victory That Inspires Hope! At a time when Islamophobia, racism, and far-right extremism are on the rise across Europe, Sagal’s election to the British Parliament is a powerful reminder that hope and progress are still possible. Her achievement is particularly inspiring for women, especially Muslim women and women from minority backgrounds. She represents a generation challenging stereotypes, breaking barriers, and claiming their rightful place in political leadership. This victory comes against a troubling backdrop. In recent months, the UK has witnessed serious Islamophobic attacks targeting mosques, Muslim communities, and women wearing hijabs. In a climate where Muslim identities are increasingly questioned and politicised, Sagal’s success sends a powerful message: Muslims are not outsiders. They belong, they lead, and they help shape the future of Europe. Congratulations, Sagal! May your journey inspire many more to follow in your footsteps.

Somalia is celebrating nearly 40,000 students passing their secondary school exams. Congratulations to the students and their families. An enormous achievement despite limited resources and immense challenges. They deserve to celebrate. But what exactly is the government celebrating? For these young people, the harder exam begins tomorrow. How many can afford university? How many quality university places exist? How many will become doctors, engineers, economists, teachers, nurses and other professionals Somalia desperately needs? And how many will actually find jobs afterwards? President @HassanSMohamud has spoken publicly about his own children becoming doctors and economists. Good for them. But the real question for a president is not what opportunities his own children had. It is: who will provide those opportunities to Somalia’s 40,000 graduates? A country cannot celebrate examination results every year without answering what comes next. Without affordable higher education, vocational training, jobs and a functioning economy, we are graduating thousands of young people into uncertainty. Some will leave. Some will risk dangerous migration routes. Some will become vulnerable to trafficking, criminal networks or extremist recruitment. Many more will simply spend years unemployed, despite doing exactly what society asked of them: study hard and pass. Passing secondary school should be the beginning of opportunity, not the end of it. Somalia’s government, @TheVillaSomalia @SomaliPM @HamzaAbdiBarre @HassanSMohamud @moechesomalia @faaraxsheekh must answer a simple question: What is the national plan for these 40,000 young people?

Yesterday, i had the honour of representing the @islamskraad and speaking at the commemoration of the August 10, 2019 far-right terrorist attack on Al-Noor Mosque. Seven years later, Islamophobia is not history. Across Europe, we are witnessing a deeply concerning rise in anti-Muslim hatred, with Muslims, mosques and community institutions increasingly targeted. My message was clear: words matter, political rhetoric matters. Leaders have a responsibility to bring people together, not turn communities against one another. August 10 is a reminder of where Islamophobia and far-right hatred can lead when allowed to grow.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

Why did Somalis build a house in honor of former President @M_Farmaajo? For many outside Somalia, this may seem unusual. But for many Somalis it is not about personality cults — it is about a period when the state began to function again. Under his leadership, people experienced something they had not felt for a long time: hope. • The military was rebuilt • Soldiers and civil servants received salaries digitally and directly — corruption decreased • The economy gradually began to stabilize • State-building gained clear direction • Foreign policy gained strategy and independence • International actors once again operated inside Somalia But perhaps most importantly: When he left office, he documented his work and handed over power. In a country where transitions of power often create crises, this became for many a symbol of trust, accountability, and respect for the state. The fact that these documents are now also being presented and verified is seen by many as further confirmation that he was a responsible and reliable president. Therefore, this house is not just a building. For many, it represents a period in which they experienced leadership they could trust — and a state that once again began to belong to its people.

PM @HamzaAbdiBarre has stated that he does not recognize @PresidentMadobe as the President of Jubaland. This position reveals a striking inconsistency. Only five years ago, PM Hamza served as the chair of the Jubaland electoral committee and was a key defender of the electoral model commonly referred to as «3 ii keen hal aan kala boxo» - a negotiated, elite-driven selection process. In this regard, Ahmed Madobe is not introducing a new political practice. On the contrary, he is operating within the same electoral framework that has governed Jubaland for the past fifteen years. The real change, therefore, is not institutional but political. It lies in PM Hamza’s own position. A model he previously endorsed and legitimized is now being rejected because its outcome runs counter to the interests of his current government. This shift underscores a lack of ideological consistency and raises questions about principled leadership. It reflects neither adherence to a coherent political doctrine nor a pragmatism grounded in institutional stability. In light of this history, PM Hamza should issue a formal apology to the Somali public, and in particular to the people of Jubaland, for his role and actions as head of the electoral committee. Such an acknowledgment would be a necessary step toward political accountability. Only then can his current statements carry genuine credibility and political weight. Waqooyi Bari, hambalyo markale, adinku inma quseeyso arrinkaan!
