The NIEBC’s decision to schedule parliamentary elections for 15 April 2027 and presidential elections for 15 May 2027 is deeply troubling. Without national consensus, it risks further eroding constitutional legitimacy, political trust and confidence in Somalia’s electoral process.
Somalia needs reconciliation and an agreed political transition not unilateral steps that deepen the crisis.

I was delighted to meet with the Gurmad Qaran team, recently launched in Mogadishu. The platform seeks to bring together like-minded Somalis to mobilize rational and constructive voices in addressing the challenges of Somali state-building.
Gurmad Qaran is not a political party, but it has political views and seeks to contribute to the national discourse through ideas, dialogue, and civic engagement.
I have offered my services as an adviser to the platform, and I am grateful to the team for welcoming and accepting my contribution. I wish Gurmad Qaran success in promoting thoughtful, responsible, and constructive engagement for the future of Somalia.
